Yes but sometimes he would miss the whole house.

He is limited in range by genetics. He's quick, fairly fast, and fluid, but he's very short and has a small wingspan. That is limited range. Balls will go over his head and past his outstretched glove over the middle more than they would others.

That said, I don't think it'll be a huge deal in college, but he would never be a shortstop in the pros. 2B written all over him.

Some of the best shortstops of all time are close to or shorter than Milam. Now I'm not saying he has that kind of glove, hopefully we will see, but I wouldn't exactly write him out of a future at SS.

2023 AL Gold Glove- Anthony Volpe

2016 AL Gold Glove- Francisco Lindor

4 Time gold glove- Jimmy Rollins

11 time gold glove- Omar Vizquel

Well Milam doesn’t have the arm to play 3B and Dickinson doesn’t either but Milam is a better defender so it makes sense to put him at SS Dickinson at 2B and Braswell (the only one with a strong enough arm) at 3B for that position

I do have thoughts on this, but I’ve learned that these kids work on their skills and can show a lot of improvement from year to year and even over the course of a season.

So it’s just easier to trust Jay and watch the professional development occur.

Why would any of us give a shite about what we think a player can and can’t do? None of us are talking heads that get paid to make up bullshite. Let’s just find out.

I would rather comment about his development than speculate about his limitations. If that sounds more like a sunshine pumper than a negatiger, you got me.

Because it let's us talk about baseball now.

have you come to the realization yet that LSU had no true leadoff hitter or backup SS that could seemingly take the job from the two players you hated on all year?

I mean it sounds like the guy that was at 2B is able to play SS... Who are the 2 players you are referencing? Kling and Neal? The two guys who weren't starting at the end of the year and ended up quitting?

You are completely discounting reaction time, the angle you take, etc.

Those are arguably more important than 4 more inches of reach in a wingspan.

I guess you know more than the coach, who didn’t want to play him there all season

That is just two of the many.

Clear he doesn’t prioritize it

Why would he? Based on our team composition since he's been here, there is not a defender on the planet that could save enough runs in a college season to justify taking Jacob Berry or Tanks out of the lineup. Nor Dugas for that matter. It's a silly point. The math clearly supports the composition of the team. This isn't MLB. There simply aren't very many players who are dandy glove men and slug like Tanks.

You’ve never disagreed with a coach before?

Lol I hope your favorite quitters do well next year. I’m glad they found spots at schools in which they can be an everyday player, they need the reps.

Milam could legitimately play any position on the infield for sure, and play well. So, if we have someone that isnt as versatile, is just a pure 2nd baseman, and he can get on base and hit the ball, then it will work out well for all parties involved. Milam is a beast and will be a stellar player no matter what and if JJ believes moving him to shortstop is the best option for our team, then whats the question? Lets do it.

Yes you do. You did that exact thing to me whenever Jay moved Kling back to the leadoff spot for like 3 games.

Cause you were wrong. LSU had no other leadoff hitter. They tried 9 guys before going back to Kling

So why wasn’t Kling leading off at the end of the year?
