Thanks for the heads up.

No prob. I recall when Ricky Blanton was with the Bulls (however short a period of time that was) or it may have come after his playing days, and someone asked him who was the best player he'd ever played with, of course he said Jordan. But he added John Williams name as well. That says a lot. I talked to Dale Brown at a recruiting bash years ago. we had a long conversation. He told me he had an offer from ESPN to be an anylast. The job would have started in the 1986/1987 season. He said he seriously considered the job and went to John and asked if he was coming back for that season. He told John about the offer and told him if he was going pro then Dale was going to take the job. He said John assured him he was returning for the next season. We know the history now of course. That says a lot for a player if a coach is going to make a career decision based on whether that player was coming back the next season.

Shaq and Petit also consensus NBA top 50 players of all time. Maravich considered top 50 by many.

What? Maravich was named top 50 along with Shaq and Petit. He is equally considered a consensus top 50.

First hand experience, three very good players. But, they couldn’t hold Rudy’, jock strap. If it wasn’t, for injury he had, we would had been National Champions. Best rebounder I have seen for his size in my life.

You would think a HOF player and a fan base-proclaimed all-time top five LSU player deserves a correct spelling of his name. Bob PETTIT—not PETIT

I too am torn. But imho Rudy gets the nod because he was FEROCIOUS on the glass. He is the 2nd Chance point of that group.

I say that as someone who thinks John Williams was the smoothest, most elegant big body to ever play at LSU. Dude was a symphony.

Great lineup choice, although Petit, Rudy and Pistol all played the same game. Maybe replace Rudy for a pure ball handler or a power guy that'll rebound and add intimidation in the middle along with Shaq. Ethan Martin, from the same era as Rudy is the best playmaker I can think of. Any number of big guys could fit the other role, including Stanley Roberts, Tyrus Thomas, Greg Cook, etc.

F Rudy Macklin

This is the only one where there can be solid argument concerning who else could or should have that spot. I've contemplated this lineup for years.

Second in career scoring and leading rebounder. Even more importaznt he was the rock upon which the Fantastic Climb to the Top began. He brought it every night and deserves a spot in the top five. The others mentioned were very talented but without Macklin there may not have been the parade of stars for almost 20 years. Dale is probably gone by 1977.

If I could get Randy Livingston without the knee injury, he’d be hard to keep off the list.

On pure talent and need for abilities at each position

PG- Chris Jackson
SG - Pistol
SF - Rudy
PF - Pettit
C - Shaq

if they were actually to play a real game I would put Ethan Martin over CJ due to his ability to distribute and being the best defensive point guard in lsu history.

As for bench John Williams, the supersub Willie Sims, backup center Greg Cook as you need an enforcer to protect all those scorers and the Cookieman was the baddest man ever to wear the Tiger basketball uniform. Would also take Howard Carter and Leonard Mitchell before he severed his ulna nerve.
