not only did I do that, I played a couple of years at LSU, of course it doesn't count because it was pre-Skip, or so I've been told

I must have been a natural because I was a pretty decent opposite field hitter

What PM meant is Morgan is a natural at going opposite field and it’s not that easy to teach others to do it.
I agree with this actually. It's not easy. And there are prerequisites in skills and talent that every player who shows up to LSU should already have. Hand-Eye coordination is one. Quick reactions (fast twitch muscles) is another. Both can be improved somewhat, but like you said there's some natural ability there first.

I look at a player like Milazzo who, as a good defensive catcher, has those prerequisites (tools) and shows them off with every ball received, blocked, and throw to 2B. Yet he's struggling at the plate. I think he can be taught to be better and even great one day. JMHO.

But going oppo and doing it well in baseball is actually one of them.

HE didnt say it wasnt. He said being a great oppo hitter couldnt be taught. Not oppo hitting. Or being a better oppo hitter.

The fact that you think the entire argument of this thread is a strawman is hilarious.

The swing early and slower is not the approach I took when I played. I would always drop my bat head as I tried to hit the ball deeper in the zone and I would pop those balls up to right field. When muscle memory sets in, it’s hard to break. It does take a lot of repetition to change how one swings. My approach was letting the ball get closer to the plate before swinging, especially if its down the middle or on the outside corner. Approach the ball with an inside out swing and try to stay on top of the ball.

You brought up MJ and put words in my mouth saying he was only great because he was taught to be so. There's obviously more to it when you look at success as a whole.

What Morgan does to be a great oppo hitter is something most hitters have the ability to do and they can learn to do it. Morgan is a good hitter in general and yes it comes to him naturally. But my point is that just like Austin Nola can be taught what it takes to be a great catcher even though it was so late in his career, someone even like Milazzo can be taught and helped into being a great oppo hitter too. It's not something you simply can't teach.

used to love hit and runs because you can plan/commit before the pitch, assuming it's a hittable ball

Similar reason I loved to bunt for hit. I found it helped with pitch selection.

Also being a high school coach. I would say that Morgan can handle pitch’s on the outer half most likely better than other LSU hitters.
The swing doesn’t change, the shoulder angle, bat angle, posture etc changes based on the pitch height and location

Morgan has an amazing swing. Hit pitch recognition is probably his best trait IMO

have a friend that pitched for LSU and in the bigs for a number of years, we were at a wedding a few years ago, for the weekend, and all of the young baws wanted to take a few cuts off of a big leaguer so we all went to a local field, all the kids were having a big time and he asks me "want some of this?" my eyes were gone by that time and he was still working out with big league teams in case he got an offer he couldn't refuse, I took a few swings, made some decent contact and started feeling it so I tied into one pretty good and his complexion completely changed, he immediately went into competitive mode and showed me some of his "craft," it was time to go back to the beer

WRONG! I was a dead pull hitter out of HS and by the time I finished my college career, I could hit the ball oppo pretty consistently. Coaches were the reason.
