This isn't mine. Credit to Lawge1 on another board.

This is perfectly said and I fully expect the people that have nothing but hate for Miles to pick this apart to the last period. Just like someone else on this board is.....as if National Championships are some crown that easy to win.

If it's tl;dr, that's your problem. Just tells the rest of us you refuse to believe anything but "It's all Miles fault!"

quote:

You can NOT . . .

Say that Stud/Miles are incompetent AND Saban is the greek god of defense after LSU ran 85 plays, had a 300 yard passer and 100 yard rusher, averaged 5 yards per play, converted 10 of 20 3rd downs, possessed the ball for 39 minutes and outgained Bama by 100 yards.

Say that coaching cost us the game without acknowledging that coaching overcame an 11-point deficit and put us in a position to win the game with less than 2 minutes to play.

Say that coaching won the game for Bama without acknowledging that coaching allowed them to blow an 11-point lead due to offensive ineptness (and an inability to stop LSU on third down) that required flawless execution of the two minute drill, minus some holding that would have really set them back had it been called.

Say that coaching is holding the LSU program back without acknowledging for some reason this team has shown dramatic improvement over the last 4 games despite losing 3 starters on the offensive line. I think we can all agree that this team has not simply been watching motivational videos for the last two weeks.

Actually you can say whatever you want - rarely does logic prevent those who must blame someone else for their own disappointment. However, by doing so, you confirm what Paul Finebaum said before the game yesterday - no fan base in the country turns on its program faster than LSU whenever something doesn't go their way.

I'm disappointed that LSU did not win last night, but I am proud that we outplayed the best team in the country with a first year starter at QB and two freshmen on the right side of the O-line, and a 6 year senior on the left side of the O-line who probably shouldn't even be playing football. We beat them with a three freshmen in the secondary who were unexpectedly forced into starting roles and a freshman at linebacker who still is not sure what he is doing out there. We beat them with a freshmen running back. Sophomore receivers and a sophomore at LG. We were not close to full strength and gave them all they could handle. Logic demands that someone deserves credit for that and I am open to suggestions.

I choose to believe that our program re-established itself last night as one of the elite programs in the country. LSU is alive and well. Our future is very bright and last night validated that we can stand toe-to-toe with anyone in the country, including mighty Alabama and their coaching staff that is allegedly leap years ahead of our staff. You can't say our coaching is so inferior to Bama unless you believe our talent is so superior Bama and you simply can't say that our talent is so superior that we can lose 4 starters on offense and 3 starters on defense in a season and still have talent that far exceeds our foe, which unfortunately is the envy of many a LSU fan. Others choose to believe that blaming Miles, Stud or Chavis will somehow ease the pain that we share as a collective fan base, but we all seem to forget how much greater the pain is for the coaching staff and players. I'm sure a fan base that turns on a program that left it on the field last night only serves to intensify that pain. The players and staff turned it loose last night and left it on the field but Bama proved to be fortunate and credit the other elite program for finding a way to win a game they lost everywhere but the final scoreboard.

Also, the best thing about freshmen and sophomores is when they become juniors and seniors. No need to look over your shoulder Bama. That's Tiger breath you feel and we are right on your big elephant arse.

Geaux Tigers!

Im with you on this, coaching didnt cost us the game.

What troubles me is that bama is consistently better than us the last few years, and might be winning their third NC in four years.

I guess I'm not the only one who noticed this.

And yes, I still blame the prevent defense. If we played our normal defense at the end of both halves, the score would have been 17-7 LSU.

les miles did have a great game plan going in and they did lead us back from 11 down, he also managed to cost the team by some of his irrational risk. I loved that we were throwing but the problem came in key situations he made some calls that were as if he was coaching an unranked team. Credit to les miles for the good game plan and letting mett keep us in it but also part of the blame for losing has to go to questionable calls

I think the coaching was generally better than it's been in a few games, but failed at inopportune times.

You gotta put Bama down when you can, not play it safe. Overall I was impressed with the game plan and team preparation.

Yep. Good post. There was a lot of blame to go around, also a lot of props, but Miles is always going to be the whipping boy.

Name a coach in the country that has never done this more than one time in their careers

I haven't had a chance to watch the replay of Bama's winning drive, but I don't think it was a true "prevent" defense.

Chief was bringing outside blitzes on every play, thinking he had McCarron in a must-pass situation and that if we sat him down just once we'd run out the clock. Unfortunately, our corners kept giving them the outside completions for a 1st down and to stop the clock, and McCarron was superb in taking that.

If we'd have got him on even one of those blitzes, we'd have had a different outcome and be calling it coaching genius.

On the flip side, Miles can't be a genius on one hand if risky plays go his way but not a bafoon if they don't.

Miles needlessly interjected himself into the game on unneeded risky play calling. The talk became about him, instead of the players. If he wants to put himself on the field, he needs to be willing to take the fall if he fails.

You can't leave the door open for Alabama. LSU failed to score too many times when it had the chance.

I dont watch other teams that closely so I dont know exactly what their coach does every game they lose. Im just saying les had a great game plan but then at some key moments he pulled out tricks that we didn't need to use. It was as if we were unranked instead of top 5. Im not saying miles is the only guy that does it either just that on saturday miles gets both credit and blame. I think overall the program is fine even though id still like a few tweaks on offense in the off season.

Trick plays have a place against bama but not when its 4th and 12. the trick plays had no real rhyme or reason and it was like we just kept going to the well. that is what made it feel like we were unranked. Then he went into a shell at the end when a first down ices the game he played it safe after all the other risk.

failed chances to score and then giving them great field position at the end of the half killed us. It wasn't all les though since jc and drew both cost us points.
