I’ve been bullish on our odds to go 10-2. I’m seeing a lot of posters making excuses for BK if we end up 8-4 or worse. Thats unacceptable at LSU, especially in year 3.

We didn’t pay Kelly 100 million for him to regress in year 3 after promising we’d compete for championships in year 3. Time for him to show us results

It’s not really a true year 3 for him. Year 1 was a wash and survive season where he overachieved.

Think of this as a true year 2

I talked to someone at another program and they said the exact same thing how this is a true year 2.

I will add that Kelly did have that judge me by year 3 comment so why did he say that.

The funniest part of you knee jerkers is that your expectations for playoffs in year 3 is based upon the fact that he way exceeded expectations in year 1 and 2. This roster was an absolute disaster when he took the helm. 10-2 and West champs in year one may have been the best coaching job I've seen in my life at LSU.

It basically comes down to this: He has failed on the defensive side of the ball.

Because he knows as well as I do that coaches are judged on their year 3.

However he didn’t realize how bad things were when he took over. We were in jeopardy of having a season that could have set the program back 5-8 seasons. Kelly came in here and competed and unfortunately for him he drastically overachieved in year 1 which put unrealistic pressure on him last season and this season.

Look at the recruiting class he has this year. Let’s at least see how he does with all this talent he went out and got.

Sweet, another one of these threads.

Also, Kelly's contract is not $100M, it's $95M.

Who else in the $9.5M / year range would you like? Look at the coaches and let us know.

Kalen DeBoer Alabama $10 million
Mike Norvell Florida State $9.8 million
Brian Kelly LSU $9.5 million
Ryan Day Ohio State $9.5 million
Lane Kiffin Ole Miss $9 million
Josh Heupel Tennessee $9 million
Mark Stoops Kentucky $9 million
James Franklin Penn State $8.5 million

$9.5M is a lot of money, but it's not really a lot of money in the NCAA football coaching world anymore.

Napier should be free soon; he'll probably be a real bargain.

Year four needs to be undefeated National champions.

Anything less than that in year 4 is unacceptable.

if it were another coach than Kelly, the salary would be the same....

100 mil is the price at a natty potential school......

8-4 is very possible, so is 10-2.....this is the SEC West.

Yep. The House hire was bad. The d didn't want to play for House last season. BK should have demoted him immediately. Secondary recruiting has been bad. Breaux has played well for a true frosh but BK didn't do well at DT either. Our DE's are really good.

Before yesterdays games. LSU was ranked 14th in total defense in the SEC. Thats on BK.

As 225 said, this is actually his 2nd full year of recruiting. His 3rd year leading the team and it’s only 4 games into it. So since you’re judging him on his failures of year 3 already, please tell me how the season plays out so I don’t have to drink so much in anticipation.

Even if he meant this year in his year 3 statement, he said that with a completely depleted roster and he made a few misses in his hires. However year 1 House wasn’t even close to year 2 House. He had to go. But we still aren’t rich in talent like lsu was under previous coaches. And he’s fixing that with the new defensive hires.

Additionally the unforeseen D line coach’s situation last year is nothing anyone can be blamed for. To me, he deserves the criticism for the year 1/2 defensive hires, but he also shouldn’t be counted for his year 3 until after his 3rd full recruiting cycle. And I’m glad he didn’t pay 1 year mercenaries to come here. Patience with recruiting and this staff and lsu will become a monster again.

Natty’s are elusive. The best team also needs a lot of things to go right for them to win one. With Kelly’s hire, i was hoping to be a perennial contender, always in the conversation. Since losing to A&M after BKs Bama win, we have not even sniffed relevance. I hope i’m wrong but it might be a while before we are relevant in November. I dont think we ever get to perennial contender status with BK.

Even if we go 10-2, we’re not really competing for a championship… we’re a playoff team.

We paid him 100 million dollars to win a natty while he’s here. Period
