Burrow does things that Etling isn't or wasn't capable of. Burrow has the better arm.

Etling's long ball tended to sail because he had to put so much into it.

Burrow makes throws that Etling wouldn't even try. That's where the disparity comes in.

Burrow is fearless.

2-Offensive line has not been able to become cohesive due to injuries, this had led to an abnormal amount of throwaways, pressure & sacks

Lot of truth to that. You'd think 60% passing isn't too tough a hurdle, but we've only seen it once. I thought his overall accuracy was probably the worst it's been vs UGA this weekend, but he still played pretty well as the entire package. UGA is a good defense.

I'm a convert on Burrow, but as I mentioned earlier, it's based on his talent and not necessarily his production so far.

His running makes the difference.
Nice to have a DT that can actually throw the football, read defenses, go through progressions and effectively manage the Offense a la Tebow and Manziel.

Most DT's can't do all those well. (They're majority Glorified RB's)

Not to slight Etling, he worked his arse off with the talent he has.. but Burrow has as well and is a better player

What do you think is/are the reason(s) for Burrow's statistically inferior season thus far (compared to Etling)? Not trolling, asking seriously. Burrow - 7.3 YPA, 53% completion, 122 rating Etling - 9.0 YPA, 60% completion, 152 rating I know you feel like drops have been abnormally high, but what else? Is a slightly worse running game this year having that much of an impact?

Because Burrow throws the ball away instead of patting the ball and taking sacks...

The Rant went through this weird phase in August where a bunch of Burrow hate boiled up. It was mostly from the Brennan fan boys.

I don't think any LSU fan has ever said the opposite? It must have been just you.

I love Joe Burrow and I believe he has more tools than Etling, but Etling was drafted by the Patriots.

Ryan Mallett was drafted by the Patriots and with a 3rd round pick. Not every decision that organization makes is a good one.

I personally consider throwing the ball away a better trait than a QB that pats the ball until a player is wide open or he’s sacked

Uhh...burrow does this all the damn time.

I think he's a really good QB, but he has faults. Holding the ball Waaaaay too long is one of them.

Etling has a cult following on here that is very strange. Dude was the definition of average.

I don’t care about his two interceptions or rating. He was average AT BEST

He was so obviously less physically talented than Brandon Harris yet so obviously more capable than Brandon Harris at the same time.

I think it had more to do with how horrible Brandon Harris performed during games that had people over appreciating Etling. We had just gone through basically two years with Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris. No wonder Danny Etling was so loved because at least he was an average D1 QB.

This part of your post is spot on.
quote:

One advantage I will give Etling over Burrow is throwing the ball down field. Etling wasn't the greatest mid range thrower but balls 25+ yards down field, he was much more accurate. Another advantage Danny had was pocket awareness. He didn't hold the ball as long as Burrow does, thus preventing sacks and fumbles

Wrong. I went back and forth with several douches on this topic who were adamant that Etling was better than Burrow. They all shut their mouths and disappeared after week 3.
