What do you think is/are the reason(s) for Burrow's statistically inferior season thus far (compared to Etling)? Not trolling, asking seriously.

Burrow - 7.3 YPA, 53% completion, 122 rating
Etling - 9.0 YPA, 60% completion, 152 rating

I know you feel like drops have been abnormally high, but what else? Is a slightly worse running game this year having that much of an impact?

Thank you

If Burrow is so much better, when are his stats going to actually reflect that. As of now they reflect the opposite.

Etling's numbers were better because of the scheme and circumstances.

He was here a year as a redshirt, sitting out games after transferring. During that time he practiced with the backups, I believe.
When he got his chance, notice that Chark also emerged. Chark was a backup with him, we had Dural and Dupre. But Etling's favorite target from game 1, until the final game, was Chark. Obviously, those two had some connection.
Also during his time here, he had Fournette, Guice and D Williams. The focus of the offense was to run the ball, and then throw on play action. Even Canada's offense was set to play off Guice and Williams.

Burrow, in contrast, has been here only since the summer. No WR that he's developed a rhythm with, he's just now starting to click with Jefferson. Also, while Brossette has been competent and Edwards-Helaire is beginning to emerge, the scheme is flipped. The offense is Burrow in the shotgun passing, setting up the run.

If Burrow had a favorite receiver already lined up, if we had an All-American RB and a deep O line, and Burrow got the benefit of just throwing off play-action, I think his numbers would be way better. He's been very accurate on his targeted attempts, and if you defuse the pressure with a running focus, he might be close to 70% (without the drops).

His running makes the difference. Also, Burrow is in his first year with the team. It's an unfair comparison, but if you take away his running ability, and compare Burrow's first year with Etling's second, then Etling is better. Compare their first years, and include running, and Burrow is clearly better.

Of all the stupid arse posts I’ve seen on this board this ranks pretty high up there

Perhaps. Etling either was not allowed to or could not audible into a better play. Etling first 7 games were not as difficult as Burrow first 7. IMO we lose to Miami and Auburn with Etling as he would have taken 3 or 4 more sacks in each game. Next many of the big passing plays in each game were over the middle. Etling either could not or was not allowed to throw over the middle.

Anyway Etling is not close to Burrow.

I did not know LSU fans were saying Burrow and Etling the same. Brad Nessler said Burrow was Etling with a different number. Other national pundits have not had anything to say about Burrow.

Whoa there whistledick. That is as ignorant as asking if we are ready to concede that Devin White has surpassed the legend D.J. Welter and I am not willing to say that yet...

I hadn't seen enough out of Burrow put him over Etling at that point, even if he had potential to be better. He was also completing less than 50% of his passes and whatnot.

If you actually watched the games you would understand why his completion % was what it was

Another advantage Danny had was pocket awareness

Etling had terrible pocket awareness. He played scared, not smart.

now Burrow doesn't have great awareness but ole baw is going to stand in there. Id rather see that then a player cut the play short when he doesn't have to.

but balls 25+ yards down field, he was much more accurate

or he had a 4.34 WR consistently running wide open downfield, which LSU does not currently have.

Your post is far from golden, GoldenBoy! Why would you want to compare the two? Etling did what he had to do for us to be successful, and in my opinion, we should be grateful for that. Burrow is doing the same thing. Appreciate them both.
You, sir, are an IDIOT!

This was the worse thing Etling did. He used to run right into the pressure from a perfectly clean pocket

But I still dont think scared is the right word. He was willing an ready to take licks too

Bump

Etling

189.5 yards/game—60%—9yds/attempt—1.23 tds/game—0.15 int/game—153 qbr

Burrow

191.5 yards/game—53.5%—6.7yds/attempt—0.66 tds/game—0.44 int/game—114.3 qtr

Joe is bigger, stronger, and faster. But it hasn’t translated to better QB play unfortunately. His accuracy is just not there
