Would you take Aranda back and send Baker packing if you had the choice?

I would but I think Baker may have more upside at this point in his career.

This is not a "bash Baker" thread. More of a "how do you guys see Aranda now" at this point of his career?

He's probably not ever gonna be a CFB championship coach but he's got a good mind for the game and could be a major factor for a school on the verge of breaking through, as a DC

Let’s see how Baker does when he has his type of players

The same idiots calling for Baker’s head wanted Aranda fired during the 2019 season.

So take all of it with a grain of salt.

Well in honesty, I see similarities in the two. Right now I would give Baker the edge on creativity in the blitz game while I think Aranda is a better "in-game" adjustment coach.

I can see a scenario where Baker gets promoted to a HC job and Aranda returns to LSU as DC.

No. Why do people even start these threads? Baker has had 1 year. The defense overall was better but not great. Let him get some guys who fit his system.

Hard to tell with the defensive roster he’s working with. It’s nothing short of awful.

Aranda came into a slipping defense that was loaded with NFL talent and turned it around year 1. Baker came into the worst LSU defense of the last 25 years and turned it into a slightly below average unit.

Both were improvements.

If you had a chance to make a change TODAY ONLY...would you do it? I'm not down or giving up on Baker. I will say this...our defensive improvement will be the difference in another meaningless bowl game or playing in the CFP. We are close! Which one do you think TODAY would be the best bet?

Yes. An emphatic yes!! For 1 reason only. Aranda has been a head coach. If he comes back down to be a DC, it's because that's what he wants to do, and we never have to worry about him leaving for another HC gig.

Baker is young and will learn. The better he gets, the more his name will be mentioned for head coaching vacancies. He may want to test those waters. Who could blame him?

Now, would I want Aranda as Head Coach in Waiting when Kelley retires? Absolutely not.

I would rather have stability on the coaching staff where recruits know who they will playing for and in what system 2-4 years down the road. I don't want what happened at the end of Ed O where Aranada had his people in place to run a 3-4 base and Ed said we are gonna run a 4-3.

It's a topic for a message board that was neither provocative towards anyone or negative in any way.

We just played our old DC and I was curious what the board thinks of him today...not so much as an HC but I defensive mind.

I all on the Baker fan club and I'm not advocating for a change at D.C. That seemed obvious in OP?

Agreed. Taking Aranda today would certainly NOT be a no-brainer. I was just interested in the vibe of our fanbase between or old and new DC. No controversy here

Depends, would Kelly let him run his D?

Which one would run Kelly's D better in your estimation since you are insinuating that he held Baker back?

That's confusing because your OP literally says you would take Aranda back and send Baker packing if you had the choice. Baker has only been here one year and had a shite roster to work with. Aranda has more experience and is considered a master of the defense but I like the more aggressive style of Baker. Reminds me of the nasty 2000's LSU defenses that were feared.

If I had to make that decision TODAY, I would probably take Aranda knowing just how critical next year's D will be to hoisting a crystal ball.

To be clear, I am saying that I think for next year's team, I trust Aranda to take us to the next level vs Baker. This is not a "Bash Baker" post in any way. Aranda, whether you agree or not, has been considered one of the best defensive minds in CFB.

I mentioned in multiple responses that I think Baker probably has more upside over the next 5 years, if for some reason Aranda moved back to a DC role.

Man...this is all subjective! I may be way off but its JMO

The biggest reason I choose Baker is he’s more of a “use what you have” guy. Aranda is a 3-4 guy and his 3rd year (2019) is when he had all his guys in place.
