Just like Wingo isn't magically gonna be more than 5'11"ish.

While we're here, your thoughts on Wingo in the draft? Is his comp someone like Grady Jarrett?

Smith takes the cake.

I think he knows he was going to lose his job next year. We have some studs coming in.

That was the name I couldn't remember. I kept landing on Jerald Hawkins, but Hawk actually had a decent college career before leaving (I thought he coulda stayed another year though).

Weathersby couldn't stay healthy though and I think just said "F it, let me try and get paid".

I'm much more of a passive viewer these days so I dunno. Jarrett would be too unfair, b/c he's such a good pass rusher. Do we think Wingo is that elite of an athlete? I think of Wingo more as a run guy like Poona Ford or DJ Jones.

If he really is that short, he's going to be drafted towards the end of the draft, unless he has a super-athlete Combine

Smith is going to be drafted based on how he tests. If he's this freak athlete we were told, he'll likely go in the top 3 rounds. If he's not that athlete, he was never going to go that high regardless.

So you don’t think his actual play on the field with LSU is going to factor in on NFL teams deciding to draft him? I guess if a team gets him in the 7th or 8th rd maybe he is worth wasting a draft pick

If I have to see 3rd round im going to lose my mind. This guy was getting stone walled by Mississippi State and Army.. Can you imagine when he fires off too high against NFL o-lineman??

you are a projected 5th or 6th rounder, why not come back and work on building skills to improve draft status?

What if you don't? Now you're just a year older with less prime years to maybe make it to that 2nd contract and less likely to get vested.

You get better coaching in the nfl, better medical dept.,no limit on the time coaches can work with you, and you get paid for play.
I can definitely see why guys do leave if they aren't a 1st or 2nd day guy. Especially if they are coming from nothing.

This is why guys sit out. If Smith didn't play a single snap this year he would probably be a borderline 1/2 rounder

his going early tells me there was no more NIL $ for his level of play
no loss whatsoever
any lineman can dance with an olineman and have zero impact in any game in his career.

Not with his injury and our shite show of a defensive coaching staff last year.

Adebawore went in the early 4th as a basically pure freak (who didn't even have a position). Smith could do something similar, or maybe get into the 3rd b/c of his height/arm length (this is part of the "freak" status so it's implied in this presupposition).

If Smith isn't an elite athlete, 1 more year isn't going to do much to help him (like Trev)
