LSU's womens basketball program was in better shap when the coach was scissoring her players.

Original and thought-provoking. That reference has NEVER been made in a women's basketball thread, like ever. Thanks for breaking new ground

And I love all the down-votes my posts in this thread are getting. It is typical Rant bullshite. Logic and facts are not wanted...people just want to bitch for the sake of bitching, whether they know what they are talking about or not.

Did you get a doctor to tighten your a-hole? Or is it just natural?

It is just so old and unoriginal. Every time there is a women's basketball thread, someone is going to play the "Pokey/lesbian/scissoring players" reference. I mean, if it was the first time, them maybe the lulz would ensue, but it is very played out. Maybe try to update your comedy routine every 5-6 years.

Well I wasn't aware there was an issue...she has made the NCAA tournament all 4 years she has been here. This year was destined to be a tournament year until she had to boot the best player and half of the rest of the roster got hurt.

Might be nice, but there are equity issues--I think NCAA requires there to be some sort of balance between men's and women's sports. If you take away a women's sport, one men's would have to be ceased. Although LSU doesn't have a sanctioned women's football team, there is another team for women that balances out the sports...I don't have the time to check it out, but there's something at LSU that "equals" football.

I appreciate your well thought out response, but the person who posted that suggestion wasn't serious....he was being an a-hole-ish troll...

But you never can tell by some of the responses on the Rant that some haven't had frontal lobotomies...

Per ESPN, she has not recruited a top 25 class in the last 4 years. That tells you all you need to know about her recruiting abilities and the direction of the program.

If we are down to 7 players, the injury excuse doesn't add up. If there are 4 players missing, you should still have 11.

Time to wake up. We are spending a lot of money for this coach (over $750,000). We can do about the same with paying another jack leg far less.

You aren't going to convince her white knight to believe anything is wrong with this program.

Huh?

She had 13 scholarship players on the roster during the summer...kicked one off to leave 12 total.

Since then: 1 quit school in October, 2 season ending surgeries in November and currently one is out with a sprained ankle and one is out with illness.

The math isn't that hard. Had 12, 1 left and 4 are hurt, down to 7.

And don't come with "well, she should have more than 12 players to begin with". Very few coaches will carry 13-15 players. It is impossible to keep them all happy. Most rosters have 11-12 scholarship players.

Look back at previous posts....I have said on several occasions that she should get next year to try to win with the returning players plus the transfers who will be eligible, and if it doesn't work out, then she should find employment elsewhere. I would not say that I am 100% happy with the talent level here...I think her recruiting hasn't been as great as I thought it would be.

That having been said, if this year's team was intact, it would have been an NCAA team, her 5th in 5 years. I don't think you can lay it at the feet of the coach that she had to kick the best player off the team during the summer, one kid flaked out and quit school, and 4 got hurt. Hell, I almost give her credit for getting rid of Ballard. A LOT of coaches would have figured out a way to keep her around.

The bottom line is that the recruiting hasn't been very good. In terms of X's and O's I think Fargas has done well with the talent she's had. We've made the NCAA tournament every season and in the first season made it to the SEC tournament championship game. We've not had the level of success that we had during the Gunter / Chatman years but, it certainly hasn't warranted firing her. But, again, the recruiting has been bad...................not nearly as good as it needs to be.

Well, here are few things that aren't hard to understand.

LSU wasn't smelling the top 25 this year even with all those players missing.

LSU has never smelled the top 25 in recruiting in the last 4 years.

"Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining". We know better. We have seen 5 Final Fours in a row. I know an elite team when I see one. This ain't even close to being an elite team. For Christ's sake, we lost to Samford not Stanford.

Seeing a lot of excuses in this thread on why Fargas isn't getting it done. Chatman never needed excuses, just kept recruiting her arse off and getting to final fours. No, she didn't win a national championship but she was the best coach LSU has ever had in women's basketball. Fargas has proven to be mediocre at coaching and horrible at recruiting, plain and simple. Stop making excuses as it doesn't matter when all is said and done.

Alleva is probably shaking his head and can't believe he was so dumb as to extend her contract into 2019. Complete waste of a lot of money!

Interesting perspective.

I don't think Fargas is as good a coach as Chatman is. So let's just lay that right there. However, I can vividly remember that after having taken the team to three straight final fours, Chatman wanted a raise from her $400K/year salary in '06 and Skip didn't want to give it to her. Funny how things work out, ain't it?

With that being said, I don't think anyone is making "excuses". However, what I thin IS being pointed out is that this particular season is not an indicator of how her entire five season tenure has been at LSU. And THAT seems to be what many on this thread are saying. That is.............."this team is horrible so she needs to be fired".............when in reality, this is her first losing season since she's been here. I don't think she's got the program where we wanted it to be at this point, but it's certainly not as bad as many on this thread seem to want to believe.

Caldwell can coach an elite team given the talent. Her success here early on was due to talent left by the previous staff. That isn't to say she shouldnt get credit because she does deserve it! What we saw last year and this year is now with her system and her players and its in a very bad direction. Its alarming that in her time here that she can't recruit a top class. Thats why I wouldn't care if we canned her now.

If she was bringing in some good classes or had a great class coming in after this season, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and give her next year. The issue is, we have a mediocre class coming in. And we are relying on inexperienced transfers.
