I don't think anyone would really expect Mainieri to come out and say "yeah, I don't really care about the result of midweek games in the long run. It's mainly about getting young pitchers experience and practicing different situations when they present themselves even though we wouldn't normally make that decision in an SEC game."

You need a better imagination. A conversation about what? "Paul, your abysmal record over the past 12 years is cause for concern. Surely you can't think that 5 CWS appearances, 6 SEC Tourney Championships and 4 SEC titles is acceptable. Your peers have been much better. I am concerned that you've forgotten how to manage baseball. Granted, the SEC is the toughest baseball conference in college ball, but you should be able to shite CWS titles with ease."

Too many posters are short sighted. Midweek games are a symptom of larger issues. I imagine Scott will have a very candid conversation with Paul after the season.

The 09 team lost a few. What was the larger issue there?

The 17 team also lost a few. They seemed to do ok.

Every other year we lost mid week games as well.. How did we do those years?

The midweek games don’t count narrative is totally made up by sunshine pumpers

Nope, first no said they don’t count, tthat is a narrative made up by you and others that want Mainieri fired because he hasn’t won more (5 out of 10 minimum?) National Titles.

It’s a FACT that pretty all teams lose some. Bert mana team lost them. Florida loses them. Find a team that won the CWS and you will find a team that lost a midweek game. They don’t MATTER. What matters is the post season. If we won all the midweek games but lost in Omaha, people like you would still bitch. If by contrast we won in Omaha, no one will care we lost to Southern and ULL

I'm not sure it can be said any better than this.

But you get to Omaha by having favorable positioning, and losing a bunch of mid week games does not help that when the margins are tight.

The only reason I clicked on this dumb-arse thread, is so that that I could tell you that this is a dumb-arse thread. You're welcome.

Damn near half their time they ended up in Omaha. What’s your point?

Explain, in great detail, the nature of those losses during both of those seasons, as well as the general feeling amongst LSU fans at that time.

You want me to explain midweek losses from 10 years ago? Gtfo with that shite.

quote:

you can't, then know you are who I was referring to as being short sighted. 09 was 10 seasons ago. 17 was an outlier, riddled with the same issues we see today.

An outlier would mean it was a fluke. CPM being in Omaha 5/12 years isn’t a fluke. He has also lost midweek games in all 5 years he was in Omaha. Midweek games are not a good barometer for the seasons success.
