The latter - obviously take advantages of their tendencies and matchups, but we're not "down" - Bama is not "up" - this should be a fairly evenly matched game - if anything, we're better in most areas except defensive front 7 - and, WRs are perhaps a push. We're playing better on the OL and in the secondary (although that is probably closer than most LSU fans want to admit) - their DL is outstanding - but - despite injuries - our DL is starting to come alive, as is our passing game.
Assuming perfect health of both squads - purely objectively, we should be favored on a neutral field. I think a bunch of crazy gameplanning, beyond what an NFL team would do to adjust to an opponent would be counterproductive. We are who we are - we are a run first team that passes off the playaction. Ground control and efficient defense.
If we contain their impressive running game and do not give up big plays to Coker or in special teams - we should win the game - relatively comfortably. I mean, we don't turn the ball over and we don't trail in games. That tends to keep the pressure on the other team. I don't think Bama has the playmakers we do on offense and that should be the difference in this game.
thanks for a reasonable response. most fellows just assume I am downgrading our coaching staff. I am not. We are just different than a lot of other teams. we tend to rely on the ability of our athletes to execute what we like to do.
of course I know coaches watch film and have a plan. I said so.
the plain question. do we keep bama spread out or do we just try to power run into the strength of their defense? and throw a lot of long balls? what we normally do.

Miles and company typically have a very good gameplan against Bama. It was a masterful one last year where an inferior team outplayed bama. Unfortunately we weren't able to execute in a few key plays and that was the difference.
Oh, and you have no idea what you are talking about...if you even question if LSU will gameplan. Good god some of you.

I think that Wilson, Cam and Grimes watch film and figure out what blocking works against Bama and what doesn't. I mean, they aren't invincible - Tennessee did something to run the ball.
I think our strength is getting 1 more man at the point of attack (TE or FB) using motion and personnel package, rather than with formation and misdirection (although we do some of that, typically with the jet sweep and some old school counter) and letting the running back make a play for additional yardage.
I think we will throw to gaps in coverage. Bama tends to cover the deep ball fairly well. If they show some zero zones, I suspect Harris reads that and throws deep. Otherwise, we'll take what we can get - that part of the game is progressing as well.
We might throw to the RBs a little more in this game as a change of pace, but who knows? We haven't shown a lot of that and both Fournette and Guice are pretty good receivers.

this simply isn't true. Have you even watched Bama's OL? It is awful, and that is despite getting away with mauling the DL of other teams, sometimes with a handful of jersey in both hands. Our OL performance and their OL performance is not comparable, up to this point. As far as the DL...this is the one that may be closer than people think. We are very strong against the run, just like Bama, and have some stud DT's, and a stud MLB....and Debo ain't bad...with several other guys coming on bigtime on the front four.

A good part of the game plan for the offense should be setting up plays that take advantage of our OL and any weaknesses we can find in their DL (granted there is not many). And when to go deep on them after we have forced Bama to commit to more than 8 in the box. I don't think they can stop Fournette with just seven defenders in the box. They may try it at first. But they will quickly adjust. Then when they do know when it is the right time to send Dural and Dupree deep with Jeter as an option in short range.

You didn't contradict anything I said.
For clarification, though, I meant we're playing better on the OL, period. We're playing better in the secondary (although that is probably closer than most LSU fans want to admit) - if that helps you.

I don't disagree with that, but I still give them the edge in that part of the game.

if you won'take the time to actually read the post, there is little point in taking the time to write a big insult.
any reasonable person knows what I'm talking about. there is a big difference between tweaking your normal and really being aggressive in trying to attack a team's weaknesses.
our staff is intelligent and football savvy. they will "gameplan" as they think they need to. Will we see a spectacular 1st half auburn game plan? a first half Florida game plan? or just normal LSU football?
Posted on 10/27/15 at 11:24 am to stephendomalley
Honestly, some of Les' best gameplans have been against Bama minus of course 1/9/12.
We have just blown it with 2 minutes to go. Won't say why.

Bama is built to stop a running game like LSU...their front 7 is huge.
LSU is better against teams that run from the spread.

You mean the "Leonard, run like a madman and have the Auburn DB's bounce off you" game plan? We didn't run anything different in the Auburn 1st half than the Syracuse 1st half, it just worked 1000% better.

Yes. Arden Key is going to kick field goals on every first down, regardless of field position.
That's the plan.

1) Our fricking staff will gameplan against Bama. You can't possibly be that stupid.
2) It all depends on what our defense does. If we're keeping them in check and out of the end zone we will run the ball a ton. Good thing is we're getting pretty good at this passing the ball stuff.
