I liked Wade, but he and Bill Self are not even on the same stratosphere. Self has won two national championships, and almost annually contends. Wade, on the other hand, has one tournament win, and struggles to win games against various SEC West rivals. They are not even remotely comparable, and to attempt to link the two is asinine.
If Self had Will’s results, Kansas’ AD would have certainly thrown him under the bus the way Scott did.

Wade wasn’t coaching at a blue blood school and he didn’t inherit a Roy Williams team.

Bill Self has an administration that backed him up. Will Wade did not.

I've seen multiple posts about Wade not being in the same league as Self. You idiots do realize Wade is in his 30s? How many titles Self had at 39? Wade has been in the same league as Cal, Pearl, Barnes, Muss, etc. and winning more than them. I'm in the move on crowd at this point (it's done), but those criticizing him now that he's gone are flat wrong. Aside from Forde & Dick, it's been a great era of LSU basketball. Don't know about y'all, but I enjoy winning.......which we NEVER did this consistently. Dale Brown included.

It is okay to say that Bill Self is a winner. Same as Jay Wright, Scott Drew, Bennett, etc.
They are also in their 50s and 60s. No one here believes you can improve as a coach especially at a place where you can slowly but surely build a consistent winner.
It took Jay Wright, Bennett, and especially Scott Drew fricking YEARS (into their late 40s) to build a great program at their schools. We will never know that about Wade at LSU but using those guys as an example, you can't flat out say that Wade didn't have a chance to do that here if giving the backing.
I mean I believe in a coach who takes a school to 4 straight NCAA tournaments including a Sweet 16 and 2nd round appearance in 5 years at a school with terrible administrative and infrastructural support like LSU.

Yes, all of Will Wades problems are with the administration. He was up and up, never lied to his bosses or stonewalled when they tried to interview him.

Bill Self coach at one of the oldest and biggest blue blood program in the country. NCAA will not interfere with blue blood programs.
