You guys realize Mark Emmert and Scott Woodward are family right? Their kids married each other. Little awkward say Mark Emmert makes Woodys life difficult by throwing a bunch of sanctions at him to deal with. I think a couple heads will roll such as verve ausberry and meriam segar. Of course our loving Joe Alleva probably would have got fired for steering title 9 inquiries to those two people.

The bowl ban and scholarship reductions are from the OLOL stuff, OBJ, and other miscellaneous infractions.

I doubt the NCAA considers it at all for the impending Title IX case.

If the NCAA finds something worth hammering you for, they will hammer you and not care what you self imposed. IMO, bad decision by LSU.

Self-imposed sanctions only lead to even harsher penalties from the NCAA - they always want to impose their own penalties and so they just stack on top of self-imposed penalties. It seems in the eyes of the NCAA, self-imposition of penalties is an admission of an even greater degree of guilt than otherwise would have been found.

Why do we want to know what the punishment is for infractions that we dont know to be valid or not. For instance Title IX is a Federal law enforced by the govt, not the NCAA. What other infractions are we dealing with?

We're looking at Lack of Institutional Control. They don't give a shite about a self imposed bowl ban announced during the year you went .500 in.

Not necessarily...it depends on the severity of the infractions. I've read of several instances over the years when the NCAA accepted a school's self-imposed penalties, with maybe a slap on the wrist of additional minor sanctions. Given the fact that the illicit payments happened several years ago, with a different coaching staff and athletic administration, we might skate by on this one with the penalties already imposed.

Someone mentioned the Title IX investigation. This has nothing to do with the NCAA per se. The NCAA did get involved with the Penn State scandal, but from what I've read, the leaders of the organization feel like they overstepped in that case, leading to the reversal of some (if not all) of the penalties they had imposed on PSU.
More recently, I don't think Baylor suffered any NCAA penalties as a result of the scandal that cost Briles his job. (I'm not certain of this, however. Can anyone confirm or correct this?) If I'm correct, that may have been a result of the blowback from the NCAA's handling of the Penn State case. Bottom line....I would be surprised if the Title IX investigation results in any NCAA penalties, although it could cost people their jobs due to the negative publicity. I'm not familiar enough with the law to know if individuals or the university might be subject to criminal penalties of some kind.

Technically true but it contributes to the "lack of institutional control" potential investigation.

Eta: I think the NCAA recently had the hearing on the Baylor case (in the past month or two) and have yet to issue a decision.

The fact that Emmert is an LSU guy and is family to Woodard should make this a slap on the wrist

Thanks for the information. You're correct about the "institutional control" aspect. I found a recent article on the ESPN site about the Baylor hearing. (Link below) At first glance, the Baylor situation seems to have been more serious than what LSU is dealing with (more players involved, etc.), but that may change depending on what the independent investigation turns up.

I thick it might help. They may have been speaking with the NCAA and they suggested it. The practices would have been huge but lets be honest. CEO has a huge job ahead of him with the OC and DC hires plus keeping enough players from going pro.
