Making the case

He is 3rd in the country in passes defended and 1st in the SEC

He is currently tied for 4th in the nation in interceptions and 2nd in the SEC.

Maybe? I feel like these arbitrary lists are probably more slanted towards upper classmen. Either way, it's shaping up to be a hell of a debut season for him. Surely he'll be a freshman All-American.

Politics might get involved. How often do freshmen get 1st team AA honors (I literally do not know)

Well, he was listed as a 1st team mid-season All American. So, I would say he is well on his way. Time will tell. He performs well in the Alabama game, then that may seal his spot.

He’s already an mid season AP 1st Team All-American. I think preseason and mid season are kind of dumb, but he is already getting the respect he deserves.

He will have his chance to make that statement with several national games over the next several weeks. Be nice if he could get a pick 6.

He should have at least 4 more picks! He has a legit shot at being the #1 overall pick

I think Delpit gets it before Stingley, a lot of it is based on preseason hype. Most likely second or third team this year.

Yes, if he finishes the way he started he will no doubt be first team.

Hate to say it, but Jeudy is going to rip him a new one assuming they go one on one. This isnt a slight against Stingley at all, rather just how amazing Jeudy has been at Alabama. So my prediction is he will be a 2nd team All-American, which is outstanding for a freshman corner.

Alabama moves receivers around a lot and him them on slants. It won't be an all-night 1 on 1 situation like Julio and Peterson.

Maybe. These lists are very stat-driven. So if the stats are there he'll get it whether he deserves it or not. One year Johnnie Poe, of the New Orleans Saints, was All-Pro because he had about seven interceptions. Every Saints fan knew that Poe was not in the top 30 corners in the league.

Please stop gratuitously using the word "literally". What were you trying to accomplish? Did you think some readers would be confused that maybe you were writing figuratively, and in reality you knew exactly how many? The excessive, and usually incorrect, use of this word is like fingernails on a chalkboard to literate people.

Should? You mean if he hadn't dropped passes? Then I should be an AA this year if...

1. I was 40 years younger
2. I was talented
3. I wasn't lazy

BTW, I'm going to get a reputation as anti-Stingley, which is far from the truth, but this young player is the most overrated Tiger in many years. He is NOT on track to be considered for the #1 pick in any draft. He might get there one day, but that would take an extraordinary improvement.

Stingley is on track to be the second best corner LSU has ever had (This assumes Mathieu is a safety/nickel). Patrick Peterson is the GOAT. I don't see Patrick Peterson level talent in Stingley. Nearly, but not quite.
