I don't see us having any tall, athletic guys on our current team. I was hoping to get some recruits in this class to fit that bill. I'm not saying don't recruit these guys, but LSU needs some shot blockers on the team too.

Holy shite, I bet Trent doesn't realize this!! Email him your thoughts and I'll bet he changes his philosophy. I'm sure he hadn't thought of getting shot blockers.

reat point. Man, bet this guy would be so pissed off if we signed a Pete Maravich type of player today. We'd never win a game with a 6'5", 185lb white kid
White point guards are fairly common. So are white post players. How many really good, white, small forwards are there in NBA? Usually b/c this position requires a certain degree of athleticism that is rare to find in white players.

P.S. Pete Maravich and Bob Petitte played basketball how long ago? Do you think maybe the game has changed a little since then? (Both would probably be successful in today's game, but probably not as successful as they were in their day).

So you'd rather Johnson not recruit these two players so we can watch them drop 20-10 on teams while playing for Virginia?

How do you explain how Spain and Argentina have been so successful in international basketball competition recently? Are Hispanics more athletic? I don't see them winning sprints, middle distance, throwing, vaulting or jumping in Track and Field events.

I was talking 1A high school teams. How many 1A high school teams have 6'7 and 6'8 players in their starting lineup like Country Day did last year? The competition against Country Day couldn't have been too tough.

College coaches pay a lot more attention to what players do in AAU than HS. In AAU he's playing guys same height, skill, etc.

allow LSU to compete for an SEC championship or NC in the next few years? I can't see us seriously competing with Calipari at Kentucky with 2 white guys from Country Day when he is getting NBA caliber players right and left. LSU better get some athletes in the fold if they want to compete for a championship in the next few years.

totally agree

Athleticism is the ability to excel at athletics. Larry Bird was a tremendous athlete.

“Matt Derenbecker is a 6-7 kid that can play multiple positions on the court,” said Mike Theus, Director of the Louisiana Select Nike travel team, for which Derenbecker plays in the off-season. “He can play the point, the two, the three and he can guard the four. He’s not lightning quick, but he knows how to score. He definitely knows how to use his body and his feet to get open and get shots. He can play a little bit of both the inside and outside game, which is extremely advanced.”

I don't mind having a couple "heady" role players, but you gotta have some athletes if you wanna compete at a high level and make it deep into the tournament.

Do you mean players like John Tudor?

Dude, in college, what matters is can the guy put the ball in the hole? Johnson believes they can.

Like I've said, I guess you'd rather watch these 2 drop 20-10 every night while playing for Virginia or Georgetown.

And imo, we'll stay competitive in the SEC. Trent is a hell of a coach and will build a system here with players that fit his style. We have not had a true system in a while.

The Lopez brothers were more or less white and pretty damn good players for him. It is the system. Look at Dook....they don't win because of overwhelming talent.

Isn't there even a slight chance that a 17 year old that is 6'8" will be 6'9" or even 6'10" in 2 years???
