I’ll take Dylan, Tre et al in recent years. Plus we’d have Lavoilette right now and maybe Grahovac, Sorrell etc if Maineri/cain were still recruiting. Very possible.
Jay hasn’t gotten players like that out of high school. He’s had to buy them with Lipseys gun money out of the portal.

Dylan Crews and those players graduated HS in 2020
which is how they played in the spring of 21.
2020 was Pearson, Dutton and Grant Taylor.
thats class was down to Pearson and Dutton this year and that was our JR class.
The 2020 Class was down to Hellmers.

No worse than Jay’s recruiting
The best non-portal players LSU has had in the last half dozen years are definitely Maineri players hands down. I realize the string hasn’t played out on Jays players but there are no Dylan’s in that bunch.
Unfortunately there are no Lavoilettes either. Add in Cain’s guys like Grahovac, Sorrell etc and the old LSU recruiting apparatus is eating Jay’s lunch atm

Burro , you can hate all day, but LSU is much better with Johnson coaching than it was when Paul Mainieri was at the helm.

The measures of Johnson’s success should have nothing to do with the waning years of Mainieri. It should have everything to do with meeting the standards of the LSU program and all the advantages and resources it has.

Ok there were also no Dylan Crews’s for most about a decade under PMz
2021 lacked not just Dylan Crews level players even guys who could develope into Dugas or Beloso level characters
And i’m not saying PM couldn’t recruit at all, im saying Jay is just now getting a class in its 3rd year hopefully we can bring back Jones and or Herring to go along with Shores.

Jay Johnson won a championship at LSU in his second year. He then lost 7 starters on offense and his best 5 pitchers and was still three outs away from hosting a super regional.
We get it, it's all because LSU has more money than everyone and buys every transfer recruit and has no competition in baseball recruiting because schools like Tennessee (who is building a $100 million expansion) or Arkansas ($27 million expansion) or A&m ($80 million expansion) or Ole Miss ($30 mlllion expansion) or Vanderbilt ($300 million donation) or Texas ($30+ million invested in new coach) don't care about boring ole baseball.

Just because Jones may get drafted doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist.

If they transfer to texas sure. but they didn’t just hire Cain to keep the players at A&M.
and A&M money probably helps keep these kids out the draft or at least keeps their signing number high.
They had 4 HS recruits in their Lineuo and 2 were Great and 2 wouldn’t impress.
