I have hope but also doubts. His program/culture building is top notch. It's the coaching I doubt.

He has never been an elite coach and never deserved the contract LSU gave him.
He has resources and talent at LSU (particularly this year), so he might have an outside shot, but we have enough history to conclude it is not likely.

All true and also true for Dietzel, Saban, Miles and Orgeron prior to their LSU NC's.

This is hands down the most talented team he's ever had. So give him this year. But if he misses the playoffs that seat will be white-hot.

What a solid question for August before his most hyped preseason team.

What the absolute frick is the point of your topic? You need to be popped on the head. Watch the damn season if you'd like an answer.

The OP sounds like someone said "ChatGPT, write me a criticism of Brian Kelly in the style of a retarded fig"

If Brian Kelly is not an elite coach then name 5 elite coaches that would have taken the LSU job after the 2021 season.

If you think Kelly is lazy, what did you think of Orgeron? And he won a Championship at LSU.

If he can lose some arrogance/over confidence he’s a NC caliber coach. The lack of preparation for week one games and the collapse at A&M among other things are exhibit A of that problem, and his comments ahead of Clemson haven’t shown that the issue will be corrected this year.

I certainly hope--like all of us, right?--that Kelly wins it all this season.

It seems like this year should be one of his very best chances to do so.

The Notre Dame paradox

Except when you looked at their schedule.
With that none of you idiots know why ND, Alabama, Michigan and Ohio were above everyone else for decades. They were THE brand and spent. They would come get players from Louisiana and bring them north. NIL and unlimited transfer portal reshape competitiveness in the north schools favor because of being able to pay more. It is really that simple.
With the restructuring this may make it more competitive. It takes players to win. It is that simple.
ND was absolute crap when he got there and had them at 5 when he left.
He also won at other places including LSU. LSU was a freaking complete rebuild.
So the dumbass troll and others like you should consider the entire picture of both schools before making stupid comments.
This season will be the first since he has been there where I feel LsU is on the same playing field on both sides of the ball and a real shot to win it all.

20-14 over his career in openers, 13-8 in D1.

Present your case. Was it a collapse or was the team short on talent?
It was simple. You lost one of the key pieces in the offense that kept Nussmeir, a first year starter playing against a great defensive coordinator with better talent on the dline, to see where the decline happened. Sloan didn’t help as he didn’t adjust to a RM playing with a steel plate in his shoe from a broke toe. The vs UF, you lose the other guard.
This doesn’t take rocket science to understand that you can’t play SEC defenses when you freshmen or RSF and a RSF guard playing center who didn’t know how to adjust the line of scrimmage.
You also lost a possession receiver and never had your timing for the only guy that knew the offense and could take the top off of the defense trying to come back.

Uh, NO!!. Elko made a change at qb and ran the same play over and over. BK kneeled on the sideline and watched aggy run it down our throat. TOTAL COLLAPSE on defense. BK had no answer. Totally unprepared for Reed.

Bama rolls into town and again runs the same play over and over while BK stood on the sidelines and watched Milroe become a Heisman contender. Those two games were a total collapse. Losing to USC was a complete joke. USC was mediocre. Those are facts.

eta: Case presented.
