What are you guys' opinion? Jefferson has been talked about for two years, yet he keeps on starting. Y'all signed the JUCO national player of the year and Jefferson beat him out for the starting job head up in the spring.

Will JJ be the starter from start to finish this fall? If not, what week/game do you see Mett taking his job.

I dont know but then again i can't see into the future. Will Chris Relf start every game or do you see an injury in week 4?

I think if he wins ugly a few games and the staff thinks Mett is ready to roll then we could see a change.

That would probably look like him starting and Mett playing and really gaining the coaches confidence. Then I could see Mett getting a start. As for when, who knows.

He started all 14 games last year and I see him doing the same again this year. Relf learned from his early bumps and bruises against Auburn and LSU and finished the season strong.

It all depends on Jefferson. By the third or fourth game, Mett will get playing time. Until then, he never touches the field until LSU gets far enough behind and Les knows for sure that JJ can't get team back. With our defense and I think the O-line and RB situation will be better, LSU may never get that far behind for that to happen til late in the season. For some reason, I think Les would put in Lee before MET because of seniority.
Of course, I could be totally wrong

I have the same weird feeling. Really hope it doesn't happen tho.

Is Mett just having a hard time learning the offense or what? Last fall it seemed he would walk in and start like Cam did at Auburn.

I think its more so the coaches have been impressed with JJs development and leadership. But we've heard that before...

Yep same song and verse as last year. As far as what he has actually shown his 4-14 output at the spring game and his recent quote about last year not being put in a position to succeed dont show me much development or leadership. We all know Les loves his mobility though.

As for the OP's question if he is the same JJ we have seen throughout his career I hope to hell not. If Krags does have a magic wand and somehow transforms JJ into a competent qb who can actually read defenses and hit receivers in stride then I will be fine with him starting all year.

I think he will do ok in the Oregon game as he has shown he can actually learn a gameplan if given 2 weeks or more it is the following weeks that will tell the tale.

Jefferson's experience has him far of Mett and will keep JJ in the starting role for 2011. Mett will not start until 2012...so stay tuned for that SEC fans.

after 2 INTs in a single game where JJ is struggling to move the chains, regarless of the opponent, look for Mett to come in for a series or two.

I dont think 1 int will do it, and two INTs wont do it if he's otherwise able to move the offense.

Basically, he'll have to shite the bed. again. for the eleventy-thousandth time.

This.

Consider: LSU needs a fourth quarter drive, running a two minute type offense, to win a game. Can you think of one reason why Miles might go with Lee in this situation?

I will give you two: Tennessee and Florida.

So, going into the season, Miles knows he may need Lee in this type of role. Therefore, Lee should get some reps in as soon as possible (i.e. before Mett) in order to work on his timing, the new offense, the new OC, etc.

I am certainly not the biggest JJ fan, but according to multiple players I have spoken with regarding the QB situation, JJ has improved significantly throughout the Spring and Mett had a long, long way to go. According to two offensive starters, if Mett is playing QB for LSU this year, then something has gone terribly wrong.

could be attributed to Krags??? If Crowton were still around, id have serious doubts because i recall similiar comments in years past.

Having a new OC makes this actually possible! [cautiously optomistic]

I recall similar comments from coaches, but I have not heard players step up for JJ like they have this year.

Basically, they say that alot of things simply clicked for him during the Spring. He ran the ball exceptionally well. Also, they have said that he finally understands that when he goes to run, he does not have to abandon the idea of throwing it. He is keeping his head downfield and looking for the open man as the play breaks down. IMO, this was something that he has done a horrific job of in the past and I was more than excited to hear that he has began to figure it out. Obviously, we shall see whether any of this pans out in a couple of months.

I'm pretty confident JJ will start every game this season. It wont always be pretty but I think he can do enough to lead this team to a SEC championship
