He made it up to triple a last season for like 20 games. Hit .147 or so. He probably hung around as long as he did because of his position.

As he explained it to me, that meant since he didn't make it to the majors in the first 5 (or 6??) full years in the pros, he was going to be put back into a sort of minor league "draft" pool where any team could pick him up. If he wasn't "drafted" out of the Rule 5 pool, his organization would be required to put him on the opening day ML roster this coming season.
The Royals told him that wasn't going to happen so they cut him.

I was able to use the all-knowing Wikipedia to find the following.
"Any player selected under Rule 5 is immediately added to his new team's 40-man roster; thus, teams who do not have an available roster spot may not participate in the Rule 5 draft. Players who are not currently on their team's 40-man roster are eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft, but only after a standard exemption period has elapsed.
If chosen in the Rule 5 draft, a player must be kept on the selecting team's 25-man major league roster for the entire season after the draft—he may not be optioned or designated to the minors. The selecting team may, at any time, waive the Rule 5 draftee. If a Rule 5 draftee clears waivers by not signing with a new MLB team, he must be offered back to the original team, effectively canceling the Rule 5 draft choice. Once a Rule 5 draftee spends an entire season on his new team's 25-man roster, his status reverts to normal and he may be optioned or designated for assignment.
To prevent the abuse of the Rule 5 draft, the rule also states that the draftee must be active for at least 90 days. This keeps teams from drafting players, then placing them on the disabled list for the majority of the season. For example, if a Rule 5 draftee was only active for 67 days in his first season with his new club, he must be active for an additional 23 days in his second season to satisfy the Rule 5 requirements.
Any player chosen in the Rule 5 draft may be traded to any team while under the Rule 5 restrictions, but the restrictions transfer to the new team. If the new team does not want to keep the player on its 25-man roster for the season, he must be offered back to the team of which he was a member when chosen in the draft."

Thanks. I'm sure he knows how the rule applies to him and I misunderstood what he said the consequences were if he was not selected by another team.
In any case, he was clear that he wanted to work for the LSU baseball program. His last words to me were, "It would be nice to be wearing purple and gold again."

Correct. There are players that play more than a decade and never make it to the MLB. Some can't let go of that dream. Micah is a great young man with a future too good to waste competing with a bunch of Latinos that are happy getting $1100 a month, six months a year.

I played for Will's dad, Randy, and remember little Will running around the ballpark. Amazing to me that he is so old. But honestly, after hearing him talk on the radio a few years ago, I assumed he was even older than he is. He has always impressed me when speaking and seems like he has his shite super together. I would be surprised if he's not successful very quickly, and doesn't parlay this Lamar job into a much better gig in the next 5 years or so. I think he'll be in the SEC soon.

The UNO head coaching position was his but he wouldn't accept a condition they put on the offer. He ended up with a better job with a much higher profile. He will do well.

And I just saw your question about internal candidates for Lamar. Their two assistants had 16 years and 19 years experience AT Lamar. One of them was a former head coach at McNeese and was a "shoe in". Something happened behind the scenes... I wonder what conditions Lamar had for Will?

It's not a secret on here that Will and I have known each other for years. In fact, you've even made fun of it for some strange reason. I guess that makes you feel better about yourself. Weird.
Last June in Omaha my buddy and I were eating lunch at a restaurant near our team hotel on a non-game day for LSU when Will walked in by himself. There was a waiting list for a table so we invited Will to join us which he did so he wouldn't have to wait for a table.
We mentioned to him that we saw where he was being considered for the UNO HC job and asked him how it looked.
He said he was offered the job but with one condition that he told them he couldn't agree to because it would tie his hands too much. He told them if he was going to be held accountable for the team's success, he needed to have the flexibility to run his team without the condition they were requiring.
He told them if they removed the condition he would accept the offer. At that point, he was waiting to hear back from them to see what they decided.
A few days later I read where Blake Dean had accepted the job so, obviously, UNO decided not to remove the condition and they went with Plan B.
Your immaturity continues to be humorous.
ETA: And your lack of credibility regarding LSU baseball continues to grow.
