Tackle isn't all about size, Fanaika may be too heavy for tackle, in all honesty. Much of a tackle's responsibility deals with protecting the QB from the ever-athletic SEC defensive ends. As much as size helps, footwork, athleticism, and arm reach are equally, if not more, important.

I hope willford heals and has no long term effects. He gave it his best! Hopefully he can finish his degree .

Austin never got in a game last year according to his bio and what about Fanika he was all world jucco and has size what's wrong with him.

Why do so many people want Hawkins to start?

He only weighs 301 that's actually light for sec play IMHO.
And he has no experience!

He's the most athletic olineman on the team and can pass protect better than Alexander

Exactly. Easily the most athletic lineman on the team.

6'7" 301 4.6 40.

That is rediculous. He's our lt next year and in my opinion will absolutely demolish the pass rush on whatever side he plays. He's big enough to be a force in the run game but so athletic he demands a starting tackle spot.

Based on what he hasn't played a down?

Alexander was voted freshman all sec and 2nd team all American freshman .

If Hawkins is superior why did Vadal start last year? Was Hawkins hurt? I can't remember

Hawkins was our scout lt all season. He redshirted.

Not downing vadal at all, but his limited mobility was taken advantage of late in the season. Vadal would be a nasty guard, but hawkins can get his feet set before a speed rusher.

Yeah seriously. All of the pay sites say he is lightning fast and he supposedly was clocked running a 4.6. Hand times obviously.

Vadal played injured in the chick bowl! That's the only game he got beat last year.

The coaches started freshman Alexander over freshman Hawkins why?

Vadal also was an early enrollee last yr, so he got to go thru spring ball. Hawkins was about 285ish when he got to campus, so he prob needed the redshirt yr.

Ok I didn't remember that Vadal enrolled early.

But you don't think 40-50 pounds makes a difference?

Doubt Fanaika moves over to LG. His size and mobility, or lack thereof, keep him on the right side. Our LG pulls more than the RG

nah, we're talking tackle. 40-50 more lbs might be a detriment unless a guy's just that athletic (or really tall like say a Jonathan Ogden).

I don't think tackles NEED to be that big necessarily, and 6'6" 300 is plenty big enough for the SEC. Jake Matthews at A&M was an All American RT last yr and he's around that size. Rodney Reed was good and he wasn't that big (and I know he played a while back, but 03 wasn't that long ago).

Unfortunately, there is no helmet in existence that can prevent a concussion because concussions are usually caused by the brain's impact on the skull. A helmet that prevents concussions would have to counteract the brain's force of inertia as it compacts and collides against the bone.

Good try, but no. A helmet could certainly be built to prevent almost all concussions. However, it would have to be larger because it would have to accelerate the head slower. It's the magnitude of the acceleration of the head that causes concussions. To reduce this acceleration requires more distance between the two colliding objects. That distance can only be placed between the outside of the helmet and the head inside, ergo...large helmet.
