Agree but recruiting at Bama I bet is just as hard as LSU I also feel Grant was a better fit in BR than TTown

I agree. Similar programs as far as basketball goes. Georgia as well IMO. All three should be better than they are, but care about other things more.

But he hasn't done shite on the recruiting trail to my knowledge this year and just had some guys leave.

I think Smart surpassed Grant awhile ago so he will not turn into him.

Maybe. Certainly his run helped.

I don't think so. The Final 4 team had 4 seniors who were Grant holdovers. This year's squad was even better in the regular season, and they were all young guys that Smart brought in except for one guy.

I'm really just talking about the recruiting aspect. I thought Grant would be a guy that would go into Alabama and do well, but like LSU, it's harder than it should be to recruit to these schools for some reason. Just questioning whether Smart would have similar problems at an LSU or if he would overcome in ways TJ was never able to?

Smart is holding out for UConn, IMO.

As a season ticketholder at VCU I can tell you that Smart is much higher regarded as a coach than Grant. Grant's bread and butter was always talent evaluations and recruiting. Smart isn't as good a recruiter(based on the VCU caliber talent) but isn't as far behind as Grant is to him in coaching, in game and gameplanning. Smart is s technician with how he coaches.

Smart will wait for a better job then LSU. Illinois is a much better job in basketball and as said he turned them down. He's supposedly(from talk around the team) got a short list of schools he's interested in and trust me LSU isn't on it. The school and scene around it(LSU) would have to be enticing but it's hard to win at LSU these days. Not as fertile a recruiting area as people think. Sure Texas has a ton of talent but LSU isn't beating Texas,TAM, Baylor or the powerhouses that come down to poach talent for those kids.

The money for Smart isn't a big issue. As was stated earlier basketball is #1 at VCU and there is plenty of money in the school's cauldrons to pay Smart well enough for him to wait out a job on his list. The medical college and donors to VCU have plenty of money and desire to pay Smart well. The school and their donors own the City of Richmond and have plenty of resources.VCU doesn't have LSU money but that is inconsequential because there is a limit on how much LSU would pay a basketball coach. The difference between the 2 is not enough.
