Also big school with low expectations....
Why do people act like this is a positive? Good coaches are competitors. They don't shy away from expectations.

true but it isn't a negative........imagine having a little time to implement your systems without being immediately scrutinized....whether or not you want to admit it, it is an advantage

Then explain to me how Billy Donovan is still in Gainesville. The whole, my state is better than your state really doesn't matter. What matters is that Shaka is a high profile name right now and he may thinking waiting will present him an even better opportunity. I don't think the state has anything to do with anything.

That depends, it is a factor for some people. So, it could be a factor for Shaka.

I think it's something some coaches use to tell a fanbase he loves it there. But at the end of the day, VCU isn't where he is going to be long-term and he is just trying to position himself. I'm not saying that LSU is the destination, but I don't think the state, unless you grew up there or something, matters all that much.

I'm with ya about wanting him to come here, but I think he's just another jamie dixonesque pipe dream, the memphis coach will be the next big puff of smoke we get excited about..
we'll likely end up
and then
over who alleva hires
we'll likely end up

The money for Smart isn't a big issue. As was stated earlier basketball is #1 at VCU and there is plenty of money in the school's cauldrons to pay Smart well enough for him to wait out a job on his list
Not entirely true. To pay for the new contract he got after the Final Four run. VCU had to increase student fees. That right there means he is about maxed out on what he can get at VCU. You are right about VCU owning the city of Richmond though.

You are really seriously asking this huh? At first I thought maybe you were just trying to be funny, but you really think we have a chance to get him..
That's cute.
That's cute.

As someone who has lived in Richmond for 12 years. I will NEVER live in VA again, or any other commonwealth for that matter. Their attitude that they were better than other places because they are a commonwealth, pisses people off. They need to get over themselves. They are still just a state like the other 49

people that live in the "Republic of Arizona" kinda put off this vibe as well

Never done more than pretty much drive through AZ, but that kind of sounds how my family from TX is. I know we have our fair share of problems here in LA, but I don't ever want to live elsewhere again. For one the people in general are just so much nicer than in VA. They are kind of yankee in that respect. I love the friends i have from VA, but if it wasn't for my mom living there, I would never go back.

Seriously dude, why WOULD he come here? If he was ready to be a head coach of a "major" university, he would already be.

Well as someone born and raised in the Baton Rouge area, this is funny because I spent 6 years there in VA while in the Navy and made many friends there. It's a beautiful state, much prettier scenic-wise than Louisiana, and the weather there is pretty nice also. When I retire I hope to move somewhere around VA, NC, or SC.

Don't get me wrong, I love the friends i met living in Richmond, but if it wasn't for my mom still living there, I would probably never even go back. For a city that is almost 2 hours from everything, it has nothing. And for the weather. It's just as hot there during the summer without having the warm winters. And nothing even needs to be said about the food

Illinois and LSU have some differences.
None of the really good players in Chicago give a frick about Illinois basketball.
They have higher expectations.
I don't agree with everyone making the Illinois point.
