re: Why was John Brady fired?

Brady was maddeningly inconsistent. He could go from worst to first to worst again (and did) like no on else.
T e biggest problem was LSU was not a blue blood program that could get 5 star players every year so they became vulnerable to early entry into the NBA. This was not quite as prevalent during Dale Brown's hey day and most did not leave until after their junior year such as Dewayne " The Astronaut " Scales. By the 90's one and done was in vogue. Imagine what Brady could have accomplished with one more year of Stromile Swift, Tyrus
Thomas, and Brandon Bass who would have been on the Final Four team, although Tyrus may not have blown up like he did if so.

Calling Tiger20. Brady deserved better after taking over a moribund program under draconian sanctions.

Brady could coach defense, but was relatively clueless about offensive basketball.
I was the “sixth man” one game where you got to sit right behind the bench. John Brady did not say one encouraging word to a player the entire game. He sure cussed a bunch out. I think he was hard to play for.
I ran into him once at Academy Sports and he was really nice to me and chatted a bit.
John Brady is a much better radio color commentator than he was a coach. I quite like him on the radio.

Yep and that run taking out Texas & Duke was some of the most exciting tournament basketball a LSU fan could’ve ever dreamed for. It was stupendously exhilarating!!!!

When you don’t consistently win you get fired! If he were winning, all these other things would be overlooked !

His teams played some really, really ugly basketball the last couple years.

While not his best game Tyrus Thomas may have been the most entertaining basketball player LSU has had in the last 30 years.
Stromile was fun to watch too. Dunks on the big screen.

His wife, Misty Champagne distracted him.

He struggled to get LSU to NIT with #1 recruit Ben Simmons.

Bad take....Johnson was over 51% @ Nevada and took them to their first NCAA Tournament in over 15 years BEFORE getting hired @ Stanford where he was over 60% in and out of conference play!!!
The biggest difference was his ties to the West Coast and Pacific NW as a player, asst.coach was easier for his recruiting (something that LSU fans claimed he did not do well)...
He was qualified to coach @ basketball powerhouse LSU!!!

He said something against Les Miles and was soon after fired.
All I got.
All I got.

Agreed!!! Great take!!!
He started the revival @ Nevada taking them to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 15 years, winning 50% of their games during his time there...
Then won over 60% of ALL of his games @ Stanford...
He was more than qualified to coach @ basketball powerhouse LSU!!
People repeat and rehash nonsense and drivel irregardless of FACTS!!

Nonsense!!!
You dudes say anything to get up votes!!!
Trent Johnson was hot and over qualified for basketball powerhouse LSU!!!
He won at Nevada BEFORE he was hired @ Stanford where he won over 60% of ALL his games in a deeper conference than the SEC!!!

I, as did most LSU fans, thought it a good hire at the time. But it turned out to be a bad fit.
I think he bristled and Collis Temple's influence from the start and that made it tough sledding for him.
And he detested the AAU recruiting pipeline and having to roll in that gutter, which at Nevada and Stanford you might be able to still get players outside that arena and have some success, but here I think you pretty much have to roll around in it to get the players you need.

He was costing the university too much money with the amount of towels he would bite after fuming over Tack Minor's mistakes.

Had LSU kept 1 of the natural point guards that left the state, I believe the offense would have ran smoother and they couldve won that game and the title...
UCLA was just as athletic, just as tall with 2 pgs that had them running a smooth offense..
When LSU got cold they couldnt get any easy offense.
Tweety Carter ,the Francis kid,Biko Parrish(sp),,DJ Augustin, plus a few other natural ball handlers who could facilitate, distribute the ball, score and take over when it was necessary!!
The offense didnt get anything easy and the lack of a point guard versus a team with 2 quality pgs was evident!!
Yet like others have said any of the early entrants to the NBA wouldve gave LSU another dynamic player who could score and take over the game...
I understand why coaches get blamed for not making adjustments or trying different things...
I never understood why coaches get blamed when the team can't put the ball in the basket?!

Brady was never a bad coach, but his tenure was a roller coaster. After basically starting from scratch he went to the Sweet Sixteen, then we took a huge step back. Then we took a few steps forward and got bounced in the first round of the NCAA, then back to no post season.
While this was going on Brady was constantly bringing talented players, and running them off. The list is long, and there are few guys that lasted a full four yearss. He was abrasive and gruff. Few people liked him. He burned off all the goodwill from the 2006 team quickly, and the program looked to be getting significantly worse by 2008 when even a lottery pick in Anthony Randolph couldn't make us competitive.

Please identify any talented players that Brady ran off who became stars at their new schools.

I get that none of the guys who left became mega-stars, but they still could have contributed here. Also we are talking about 40 guys who left with eligibility during Brady's tenure. That is a whole lot of misses in recruiting.
