re: Why was Craig fired?

Craig's attitude was poor and he was a disappointment on the recruiting trail. As far as him ending up at bama, who cares? Seriously.
Let's get another good recruiter in here who can hopefully coach a little and maybe even not be a cancer within the organization

CEO called him in for a meeting and Craig was reportedly binderless.

247 rumor is that he was steering D Smith to Alabama.
If Craig ends up there, that rumor may be true.

If that's true, Craig better plan on retiring at Bama bc nobody else will trust him. Ever. If they're smart
Either way, it's good that he's gone. Time to move on and get a cohesive staff who understand and support the vision. Don't need toxic coaches on staff

Our receivers underperform, and now sorry arse recruiting has left a
gaping hole at that position and at running back. Thus, "Your fired"!

"Dropped the ball" with D. Smith, pun intended

On that note, it wouldn't surprise me if Craig got a job somewhere else before bama with a briefcase o' cash to cover the shadiness

My guess is that Craig was somehow
involved with Devonta going to Bama. Bama lost its WR coach and according to much of the info LSU was about to land Devonta.
If Craig surfaces at Bama then we will know.

He landed two good DL but missed on some target WRs while flirting with Oregon to be their OC. And apparantly this made Coach O cut ties with him.
(Per Southern Sports Today podcast).
Also rumored on Southern Sports Today

4) More than likely Canada wasn't a Craig fan.
This makes the most sense to me. Coach Canada has a plan and he has someone else in mind at Craig's station.

As a recruiter your performance is based on bringing recruits here. We were at a top 5 class a week before and ended up top 10. You have to follow through otherwise you are out. The other thing is Craig was not a local talent.

Most likely he steered smith to Bama. CEO fired him, and prob now Saban doesn't hire. Perception of hiring our cast-offs is not gonna fly with Nick (Ed knows this). If all true, he torpedoed his career.

I never really understood a former quarterback teaching young wide receivers how to become NFL caliber players. If you've never played the position...how can you coach it?

Or maybe coach o has a guy or 2 he wants on the staff and needed to free up some spots.
Maybe.
quote:I don't have any problems w/ Coach O bringing in his own guys, in fact I expect it. The fact that Coach O openly fired Coach Craig suggests to me the Craig did "some thing" that angered O. No one here will know what, if anything, it was. Lots of good, plausible possibilities suggested in the thread. I just think that if Coach Canada wanted to replace Craig, O wouldn't have openly fired him; Craig would've suddenly found "a new opportunity" like always happened w/ Miles; Miles never "fired" anyone.
He's the HC now so needs to be able to get his own guys in, not hang on to Miles holdovers.

Damn, if this is true and he ends up at Alabama, both Craig and Saban really are unethical slimeballs.
