LSU is one of them. I guess those 300-ish other schools should just stop playing sports altogether.
i dont care about the other schools. i care about LSU

i dont mind the other sports one bit, but dont pay a basketball coach nearly a million dollars a season when the program is losing money. softball coach makes 120K a season. that seems reasonable to me despite team record

big difference between your statement and more prudent spending on non-revenue generating sports

Keep cheerleading and golden girls and let them call that a sport.

Again, my OP was based on LSU (like all D1 schools) having a certain number of men's and women's sports. The dollars part to me is a different argument that may have more misinformation among fans than any other item. My argument is if we are going to have a team, let's try to have a good team that can compete for SEC titles etc.

Would love to hear how we should spend our money more "prudently?' Ok so you want to spend less on a women's basketball coach, how much less? and why?

i agree but that doesnt mean we should dump all kinds of money into a program that wont ever come close to producing much revenue at all

agree, but it is hard to define "dump", TAF and the LSU AD only give out partial details in their financials...non revenue sports are not broken out that I have ever seen...but if anyone has seen please post them...

women's sports are a bad investment

you might put a little money in them for fun, but you don't invest too heavily in them

With all the banter about a football team not winning its conference but playing for the National Championship, does that same logic pertain to any other sport? or just football?????

The NCAA Division I women's softball tournament has a 64-team field, which is more teams than there are conferences. I'll let you do the math, but by definition that means that a team that does not win its conference will have a chance to win the softball national title. Football currently has a two-team playoff for the national title. Again, I'll let you do the math.

Does anyone have a video of catcher Morgan Russell tagging the Mizzou runner for the last out of the inning, knocking her to the ground and then spiking the softball? That moment was awesome.

3 of ULLs CWS appearances happened before LSU even had revived their program 93, 95 and 96 I believe. LSU revived softball in 1997, and since then, has been to 3 WCWS, while in that same time span, ULL has been to 2.

ULL's highest finish is one 3rd place finish. LSU has finished 3rd both times it has been there.

ULL will also have a great program as long as the Lotief's are there, and will always have great offenses because of his hitting techniques. But unfortunately, playing in the SunBelt costs them seeding every year because their RPI is dragged down. They were like 55-4 or something before the tournament.

Torina will definitely have to improve the hitting in the LSU program. With pitching like ours, we probably should not have 23 losses, and most of that has been because of .225 team hitting average and inability to get timely hits.

HOpefully, she'll get more power in the program to go with great pitching and defense.

That was a perfect throw, catch, and block.

One of those game changing plays.

Russell stopped her dead on the spot.

Only video I have seen was at NCAA.Com under the softball brackets.

but you have to have them, so if you have to have them you might as well put money into them

spending an extra 300k on a womens basketball coach is not a whole lot of extra money in the grand scheme of LSU athletics considering how much money it makes...and I would rather spend that extra money to have them be competitive than to have them just suck all the time

you HAVE to have the team either way, so you can either have it suck or have it be competitive

...now if we are paying a lot (like we were with Van) and we still suck, then I agree, either lower the pay or find someone new

I know a majority here don't care so much for the women's programs, but I witnessed my buddies' highschool aged daughter tear up after LSU's softball lost out of their last run in the playoffs. So, there are those that really care, and the thing is, she cares just as much about the football team.

And that's the difference between being a "fan" of a sport rather than your school. I invested a lot in the university, 5 years + a lot of money. I care and want all LSU sports to succeed. They reflect our university.

I'm not good at math. break it down for me. And answer the question too for me please. should in any sport not winning your conference, non winning your tournament, etc allow you play for the championship...

This. I'm fine with pulling for the LSU Quidditch team. People who hate on any LSU team because it's a minor sport can DIAF.
