Why not Shreveport?

Hear me out on this. Is Independence Stadium being considered for the game against North Texas? I don't see the logic in halfway filling up a 80,000 seat stadium 7 hours away from Baton Rouge, when you could easily sell out a 50,000 seat stadium in your home state. There are more LSU fans that would attend a game at Independence Stadium than there would be at Texas Stadium. I know the "Hate on Shreveport" crew will be flaming on this thread, but I just don't see the reason to pass up a stadium in your home state for a half filled stadium with a lot of those people being North Texas fans. Discuss.

No way would the stadium be half empty. The stadium wouldn't be half empty if LSU played in Montana.

Well Texas Stadium only holds 65,000. There is a large number of alumni here in Dallas that would jump at the chance to go to the game. Plus you should have a large # of North Texas ppl go to the game.

Maybe so, but I want LSU fans at the game, not a healthy mix of North Texas fans or fans of SMU or something. It's better for most instate LSU fans to have the game in Shreveport, and that's who we should be concerned about.

If the game's played in Shreveport, all the naysayers and uninformed would have a chance to try Johnny's Pizza.

Oh, in that case, that's a great alternative for one of our "home" games.

Well, what happens to the 42,000 people that can not use their tickets, that they have already paid for, to get into the game?

That question would have to be answered at either stadium, and it's a tough one.

I live in Shreveport but would love to play this game in Dallas!!!
I think it would be close to a full house in Texas Stadium, I have 10-15 people that have called me asking about tickets already!!

A refund wouldn't work... People buy those tickets to attend the game. It' a 99.7% renewal rate for a reason.
I'd be pissed if they told me I couldn't attend.

Also, having it in Dallas will give LSU more exposure in Texas. That could go a long way in helping out recruiting.

hearing that the game may be played in Dallas makes me wish I had just stayed in shreveport for another week instead of coming down to baton rouge today. a 7 hour drive is going to suck for north texas, not many baton rouge folks will attend I dont think

Not too many Baton Rouge folks but there is a very large LSU alumni contigent in North Texas that will represent!!!

Outside of La, the DFW metroplex has the 2nd largest alumni base.
The game would be sold out. Being in the same area as UNT, they would bring their 30-40k and we could EASILY have that there too...
I think people fail to realize the 10k or so LSU fans that were in Tempe just 10 days after Katrina...and Arizona is a much longer haul than Dallas.

I think Dallas would be great for a number of reasons:
1. Recruiting in Texas (maybe we can get McFarland and his Mom to come see just how Miles handles adversity)
2. Give us "road" game experience before our first actual road game.
3. Can possibly avoid the weather
4. Great for LSU fans in our second largest alumni base outside the state of Louisiana (behind Houston).
5. Great for North Texas and their fans
6. Gives Tiger Stadium a little more time to get put back together.
I'm on board ... the only catch is that if the game were moved west and Ike went West and it ended up being bad weather there and obviously pristine conditions inside the SuperDome.
