TWO hundred million dollar contracts that failed miserably?
Ross Bjork is who gave Jimbo the 9 figure contract extension, not Woodward.
Jimbo was 4 years into a 75 million dollar deal and Woodward at LSU when Bjork felt the needs to extend Jimbo and increase his buyout by 40 million dollars

Why isn’t Woodward getting more hate?
He offered that ridiculous contract to BK
Downside of message boards.. no idea if 10 yr olds are posting... SW is getting slammed on TD... but Saturn needs him to get more "hate".. makes no sense

Woodward isn't getting more hate for at least three reasons:
1. The fanbase hates Kelly way more than Woodward.
2. Mulkey and Johnson bought him credibility.
3. If you look objectively (and I know that's not easy right now), the Kelly hire was popular that first year. Kelly stabilized the program, and that's about all he accomplished.
I DO think the fanbase is going to turn some negativity on Woodward once the dust settles this week, and a good percentage will be against him unilaterally hiring the next coach. It should be a committee, and Mulkey and/or Johnson should be on it.

Couple of reasons I would say
Obviously, he gets credit for the Johnson and Mulkey hires. National Championships, even in non revenue sports, are good for the brand.
Then you have to remember the coaches hired in the 2022 Cycle:
Lincoln Riley - USC
Brian Kelly - LSU
Billy Naiper - Florida
Brett Venables - Oklahoma
Sonny Dykes - TCU
Scott made arguably the best hire of the cycle, it just didn't work out here. But Brian Kelly had a better resume than all of those guys listed and people were shocked that he was able to get the ND head coach to leave for another college program (something that had literally never been done before).
He is not a bad AD, but he definitely needs someone to reign in his propensity to overspend

Very reasonable take and well said.

Mulkey wanted to come home to retire and be around mom. A monkey could have sealed that deal. Dede Breaux was instrumental on the hire
Jay has said at speaking engagement that he pretty much sought out LSU. Again a monkey could have sealed that deal.

He may already be on the chopping block.

When he was at Washington Woodward hired Sarkesian and Peterson

His time is coming hopefully.
He nees to be gone once the air clears with BK gone and season over. He cannot be part of the next coaching hire....please don't make that mistake again.

Outside Napier, he was going to pay close to a 10 year, 9 figure deal to someone. None of the dudes on that short list are doing well. I guess maybe he could have saved some money but still be in the same situation had he hired Napier instead of Kelly.
You, like Woodward, can’t think outside of the box and are still running the playbook from 20-30 years ago wanting an experienced head coach maybe at a lower P5 looking for the next step.
Dan Lanning was hired that hiring cycle.
Marcus Freeman was hired that hiring cycle.
Hell Mike Elko was available that hiring cycle.

It’s always such a convenient excuse for the Woodward apologists to use his short list to justify Kelly.

I have seen plenty of Woodward hate here on this board. There isnt much that gonna happen with that until LSU gets a new Prez though right?
