Every running play the DL is getting penetration.

Interior, especially Chester is not great.

We also don’t help ourselves with scheme. Our formations and tendencies scream run. It’s gotten a like better I’m only recognizing about 80% of the runs now, but still.

Seems 90% of our run plays are straight into the A gap which is usually jammed up.

Lack of reps throughout which does translate to physicality and what we see regarding penetration.

Too late in season to shift. That can only realistically be changed for next season.

IMHO, Sloans best bet is screens, quick slants, and (god forbid) designated draws. They have to find a way to bring safeties up and have the dline lean back in heals.

Did we pull any guards or tackles on any run plays last night? There seems to be zero creativity in the run game.

We also don't seem to have enough speed to run east and west. Our backs are very average.

Interior line. You had two true freshman out there. Losing Dellenger was huge, lost even the little push you could get at times.

Because all we do is zone block. Never heads up blocking.

Agreed.

That is also a big component. We lack the skills at RB to be a threat. 29 is dinged up too….info like him but he’s the only one we have.

Chester gets blown up nearly every single play against good interior DL. Dellinger and Frazier are hit or miss.

Center is very bad like FCS level bad. Guards are below average. Scheme is vanilla and is for a QB that can run zone read and we don’t have that. 29 is good but he is hurt. 18 is a 6th year walk-on and TEs aren’t good run blockers

This team simply needs to "establish passing game dominance to open up the run".

Hell, I'd solely pass the ball for the first three drives to build a good lead before incorporating the potential "rally killer" that is a run from a handoff.

Durham is one of the fastest backs in CFB. Our backs can't even get started because the OL is getting blown up.

It’s blocking scheme and lack of talent at RB like others have said. 29 is playing hurt and he’s the only SEC level talent we have right now. Faggies were 3 deep at RB.

We run an elementary zone scheme but the C and Frazier let the A gap get blown up every play. We ran one counter play w Taylor trapping the DE and it went for a decent gain. Then we never ran it again. It’s like we don’t want to commit to being a good run offense.

Our O line is soft and doesn’t fight.

Great example: last night when #5 got the personal foul for the REALLY REALLY LAR hit and shot to the head on Nuss, the o line just stood there and didn’t even act like they were pissed off about it.

That cheap shot should haven’t a fire under them and at least led them to show a little fight.

But they didn’t.

66 and 50 are not as elite as claimed and they will have trouble in the NFL if they don’t get a little meaner.

Les Miles liked to recruit road grader athletic OL that beat people up man on man that they taught pass protection at LSU

we made a lot of HS OT into OG at LSU

Richard Dickson talks a lot about the current OL playing really high and struggling to get under SEC DTs to drive them in run blocking

6’6 DJ Chester is really tall for a center and is fairly slow, struggles to get under DTs and doesnt get to the second level, but he is pretty young so there is hope for him to get better

the building blocks of a really good run blocking unit may not be there in 2024 and Kelly likes tall OL so it may not get much better without an overhaul of technique and scheme

They did maybe twice but the guy missed his primary blocker both times

I’d say we need to be Oregon. What? Hear me out: we have decent pass blocking, so use it to dink passes and have your receivers do the work after with YAC, like Oregon does. We don’t have the line or time to change scheme and improve run blocking in two weeks. But, usi g what you’ve got could fix QB confidence and also play to our better players. Doesn’t fix special teams (yikes as usual) or defensive scheme for Milroe (see Vandy DL scheme to help)
