Kid is a stud why is he batting 5th?

Wanted to put him in a good spot to get an rbi in the first inning. Worked out well.

I'm just pleased to see he's playing.

He's motivated since he has a large group from his hometown two hours away at Overland Park, KS.

I know what you are saying, but also considering the result, seems like he was in the right spot.

I think by season’s end he is batting lead off

Rbi guy, and you want to break your lefties up in the lineup

And its taken a while for him to get the number of at-bats needed to see if he is consistent, and he appears to be. Positive note in a down year.

3,4 & 5 are RBI positions in the batting order. Depending on the batting order philosophy of the coach, that is where you find guys the coach expects to drive in runs.
Here is an example of what I mean from the Reds' batting order in the 1975 World Series (I remember this because that was a captivating series for 15 year old me). Sparky would sometimes rotate where he placed Bench, Perez, and Foster in the 3-4-5 slots
Pete Rose
Joe Morgan
Johnny Bench
Tony Pérez
George Foster
Dave Concepción
Ken Griffey, Sr.
César Gerónimo
Bench & Foster both led the league in Hrs & RBI's multiple times during their career with the Reds

He's in a good spot. What's wrong with 5th? That's far from a scrub spot

Yep, and like others have said, it's an RBI spot for a kid who is really good at making contact.

Jay’s lineups are completely random.

He's a damn good lefty with a good swing. Maybe he'll put up numbers we thought Kling would next year. I doubt he'll just put up .100-.200 numbers. Jay did good with him and Jake Brown. They'll be steady
