They were in the Gary Crowton secret playbook. Crowton foresaw 1/9 and was saving the TE pass plays for the rematch, but we ran him off before then and he took them with him :( :( :(
rip secret playbook plays :( :( :(

Dickson's season high in yards was 375, i don't know why people think he was some huge asset. We haven't had a legit TE in a long time hopefully Smith and Jacorey Washington change that
Doesn't matter about yardage totals, the dude had 5 TDs in back to back years, he was definitely a RZ threat.

Well if your qb is only looking for his 2 top targets then what else do you want the coach or tight end to do. Mett missed a wide open Gordon down the seams against florida and again missed dixon wide open down the middle of the field against bama,,,,choosing instead to throw to Landry who was double covered.
THIS. Do people not watch the games? I've seen TEs streaking down the middle of the field many times this year completely wide open and for whatever receiver, Mett is blind to this fact..

Maybe its because the OL can't do the job of protecting the QB without the TE staying home and helping block.

But but miles said we would utilize the tight ends more this year

Let's see...could it be the coaching?

Our TEs have been there in the passing game this year, but I really believe the lack of use of them for so long has made it second nature to not look at them when Mett goes through his projections.

The TE's have been there, but ZM is missing them. Had wide open td's against Bama and FL but he didn't look their way. Just because they don't get the ball doesn't mean they aren't running routes, or wide open for that matter.

Saving bag of tricks for Bama

Give me OBJ,JL and JH. We don't get the ball to them enough. We ran our scat back in between the tackles in the 3rd and 4th qr and hill ran the ball 13 times. I hope fans aren't referring to what Garry D said in the Bama game, when he said the TE was wide open. Turn off the volume and watch the replay the ball was thrown before the TE started his cut. Mett would have taken a sack. If you think our TE's can make the same adjustments on timing routes that our WR's can your crazy. We have two of the best WRs in CF with JH. Keep the right personal in the game and learn how to run a screen, no one would stop us.

He was a fantastic pass-catching TE. He could've been an All-American if we had a coach who had a clue on how to use the TE as an offensive weapon. His potential ended up being wasted for the most part, and his brother is experiencing the same thing.
You gotta understand that when Miles PLAYED at Michigan they only used the TE for run blocking.

The issue is a combination. Our TEs have not been our best weapons - though they don't need to be to get open and actually have a ball thrown their way. We tried a few times with Clement, but he dropped as many as he caught.
One issue is that Miles does NOT like to throw short throws over the middle - which is where a TE would be very effective.
Since 2008 with Lee, Miles has been extremely reluctant to allow for throws over the middle in his offense. Lee had at least 3 that year that were short over the middle throws that got picked and returned for TDs.
Why we've only thrown a few of the deeper middle routes to a TE over the years, which you would think would be a staple pass play with our play-action offense, I don't know.

This, Miles is very reluctant to use the TE short since Lee. Flynn threw to the TE w/Crowton.
I also believe that Lee was actually shell shocked and would not target the middle of the field, Jefferson could not hit any receivers so asking him to hit the TE was a stretch, he could not use his progressions.
I believe it is the same with Mett, Odell or Landry, he never really improved at his progressions. His release is slow, so the route may have been there, but he couldn't make the play. Why else would he throw into double and triple coverage.
Lee was probably the only one who could do it with any real effect and because 2008 was soo bad, he wouldn't do it.
It has really been our quarterback play. Although making the TE the primary read has not been a priority since Crowton left.

Not even remoteltly true. Dude was flat out uncovered well before the ball was thrown.

I believe Danielson talks about Saban's defense saying that the pressure will require some gaps in coverage. Saban is willing to do that if he thinks he can effect throws, etc. with pressure. That is why a running quarterback gives him fits and why LSU would always get killed by a running back pass when he was here.

What the hell has happened? Isn't that Richards Dixons little brother out there now?
1)haven't had a qb that will throw the ball to them when they are open. Gordon against florida running wide open, we throw to landry. Dickson against bama, was running wide open for a t.d., we throw to landry.
2)offensive line issues, need them to block.

Richard Dixon was a wide receiver that transferred.

You could not be more correct!!...You have to use RB in the pass and TE down the seam....only way you can be successful. I still remember the year we won it in 2003. Ron Zook of all people beat us using the RB as WR the whole game. Saban said at the interview after, they were not out played, they were out coached. For some reason, that always stuck with me.
