Nor do i really care that much if they like him.

If nobody spills anything, that's fine. I just think it's weak that you bring up your cousin and the thing you say is he makes fun of his mannerisms. That's weak. Your cousin played and was around him and hated him but he makes fun of his mannerisms. Sounds like your cousin didn't play and is just mad.
K. Got it.

All that aside. It takes a real prick not to congratulate his former player when he wins a State Title as a coach. Period.

The only difference between you and his cousin is that you didn't even wear the uniform and don't like paul

Hard to know if they respect him. I would think most do, even if they say otherwise

This might be true of most coaches. I would imagine that Skip dropped some F bombs on his players behind closed doors . But if Mainieri is treating his players like crap then how is he still able to recruit top 15 talent on a consistent basis ? I'm not saying that he isn't a dick. I have never spoken to him. Are players so in love with the LSU brand that they just accept his abusive coaching personality ? Does LSU baseball sell itself despite PM ?

Because he's a terrible coach.

I have a friend who was recruited by him (never received an offer) and said he had a difficult time relating to him and that he had an inflated ego. Take it for what it is worth. I've met Maineri a time or two and he was always a pretty decent guy.

I would imagine there's a multitude of former players that were taken out back by the NCAA's scholarship restrictions that are very, very sour and talked quite a bit of shite.
Also I don't think Maineri is some outlier as a douchebag baseball coach either. pretty sure that's quite the norm with baseball coaches

quote:I agree somewhat. He's not an "outlier" but I wouldn't say most coaches are like him... at least not the ones I've known. But this is something we can't ever know for sure because it's not like you or I can go around and get to know every college baseball coach from the perspective of a player.

I just don't know what to do with Maineri in my internal monologue. his contract obviously has given him immunity for quite some time. plus we've been to five straight national seeds, making it nonsensical to just fire him for going 1-2 in Omaha again (assuming we actually get back there this season )
we're just kind of stuck with him, so I find myself not letting him get the best of my interest in lsu baseball

I'm numb to going all out melt and complaining about him. Still have plenty of friends who go hard though.
This game wasn't really about him even but it's where people's complaints go. The truth is that he didn't make any "wrong" in game decisions and it's not like his lineup was totally crazy. The top of our lineup is playing like dogshit right now. I just get frustrated when he does interject himself in a way that only exaggerates the problems: hit and runs early, not bunting late, forgetting to pinch run. If we steal Friday from UF and don't lose like that to Tulane, today doesn't hurt so bad.

Mainieri's job is secure, regardless of future results. I thought having Lange and Poche and an experienced lineup was going to wreck shite this year. Honestly, I really don't know what to expect from this program this year and the next five years. Baseball at the Box used to be special and exciting.

It's starting to have a very Smoke Laval-ish feeling at this point.

Agreed. I think a lot of people are pointing to the top because of the Gibbs hire. hopefully Gibbs grows a lot from these last two weeks and figures it out. I'd like him to rite the ship and us land a lot of these croots Cannizzaro has lined up for us

TJ Forrest and I know each other, he helped coach my high school team my junior year, he said PM was the reason he left LSU. Said he was the biggest dick of a coach he'd ever played for or against.
Posted on 3/31/17 at 12:52 am to TigerFanInSouthland
It's always the guys who didn't live up to the hype that seem to be the most vocal "Mainieri is an a-hole" crowd. Forrest may say that's why he left but I'd bet it had more to do with the fact that he didn't turn out to be the prospect he was coming out of HS. He never found a starting spot at Arkansas either and went undrafted after college after being drafted in the 32nd round out of HS
And I seem to remember him leaving because of grades anyways.
