LSU people will travel to NO for the day and evening but will probably not stay over night.

NO will not make as much money.
Ding, Ding, Ding. Also I would imagine there would be sponsorship issues

"basically a LSU home game."

LSU played at Green Bay last year which was basically a home game for Wisconsin...What's the difference?

Honestly, a game in the SD doesn't benefit LSU at all and could potentially hurt.
LSU would gain no recruiting exposure in New Orleans and would not play in the game every year opening additional in roads for big time programs to showcase their programs in the richest recruiting bed LOUISIANA has to offer.
It's simply not worth the risk

I get the OPs point.

This isn't really about LSU. It wouldn't be an LSU game. Just a marquee CFB matchup. Georgia doesn't play in the Georgia Dome kickoff every year and A&Mdoesnt play at NRG.

It would be awesome to have a Mercedes Kickoff Classic in NOLA every year. Get teams like Michigan, USC, FSU, Oregon etc to come to town against other big teams. Would be an awesome event imo.

Everyone bashing the Saints and Benson saying it's because they hate LSU have it backwards. They probably specifically don't try this because of pressure from LSU as it would give other programs great exposure in LA, something that could hurt recruiting for LSU.

There are some logistical issues as well I'm sure, such as threats of hurricanes at that time of year, and other festivals/events going on in the city.

I think it would be cool though if it could be worked out. Would love to see FSU and USC or some other matchup like that in The Dome.

Because the Superdome is a dump and no one cares about playing there anymore with all the newer fancier stadiums.

Just because u don't like it doesn't mean it's not good for Lsu. We have a huge footprint in Houston from alumni to recruiting and we need to keep it like that. If that means playing n Houston every few years so be it.

Do you?

These neutral site games suck. Home and home with these opponents would be way better.

I get it is for the money, but damn, we've missed out on some cool home and home opportunities.

Arkansas plays in Little Rock once a year. I don't see why we don't play a game in New Orleans. I don't want to live there, but it'd be a great weekend

One of the reasons may be that the Southern Decadence Festival is in New Orleans on Labor Day weekend, may not be a good mix with the football crowd.

Atlanta has their gay pride festival Labor Day weekend every year too

I do drive East for all the big games. Almost 60, been doing it for over 20 years. Now with a game every other year in College Station and the occasional NRG game, it’s great to watch LSU in person without a 10-12 hour round trip drive involved.

As a poster stated earlier, Atlanta is a much larger city than New Orleans and can easily host multiple events. I know people don't want to hear stuff like the Superdome is getting old, but that's how outsiders view it, I've had them tell me this stuff in other cities.(But they should of course keep it because it's historic now and use it for other venues) I know they've redone the inside and all that, but the outside design has outlived it's usefulness and is dated now with all these cities starting to build newer and mega modern stadiums now, Atlanta being one with this new stadium about to open. shite, the Georgia dome is younger than the Superdome (Not better looking than by any means I know) and they've already built another new one. I know money is an issue of course, but sooner much more than later they will have to do something to get back into the swing of things with hosting more Super bowls and all.
