ANNNND you’re back with the complaining about the band, like you have been the past few years ever since Roy left and seem to have nothing better to do. Tiger band has a good class coming in this year and they’ll be fine. And since you want to to talk about the staff not being competent, why don’t you go and watch some of the halftime shows from this past year and compare it to what was on the field 2013-2015. Almost every halftime show from those years is repeated from exactly five years beforehand, vs this year, where all of the shows were brand new (including the military tribute show that had over 11 MILLION views alone). For once since 2013 (My first year in band), it was nice to have people applauding the halftime shows besides the military tribute show. You may not agree with how Roy was fired but Everyone was sick and tired of watching halftime shows where 2 small boxes would turn into a big boxes, which would turn into parallelograms, and throw in some curves and lines. College marching band is about entertainment and if the crowd isn’t enjoying your shows then you’re not doing your job. Period.

We don’t get enough tickets from the home teams in the SEC to take the whole band.

Ok to summarize this thread for everyone

1. LSU DOES bring band to One Away Game each season. The reason you don't see them at a road SEC game is they usually bring them to the Netural Site game at the beginning of the season which is a road game. Also would go to SEC Championship game and the Bowl game too.

2.Space for the band on road games comes from the LSU ticket allotment given by the host school for us to use as we see fit. You bring 325 or so band members and add the support staff, and administration it add up to alot of tickets. This mean less tickets sold to fans which for LSU folks means more people will bitch about not getting tickets. Also these tickets are not free so in addition to paying for each of these tickets, they have to get transport to a from the games and potentially lodging.

Unless donors come up and are willing to foot the bills to get the full band to an away game and back plus pay for tickets, look for the current trend to continue of 1 regular season road trip a season. BTW it's not like the band has an unlimited budget.

Sorry if my comments offend you. And yes, I am STILL concerned about the LSU band. Their numbers are STILL below 325. The Golden Girls are not featured as they have been in the past. The "cartoon" type shows are now not being viewed as very favorable by the fans. They only had 45 girls show up for Golden Girl tryouts last year (used to have around 100). The color guard is much smaller, they are not cutting anyone and still do not have 325. With fewer people showing up for auditions, the overall talent of the band has decreased. This is a clear indication that something is wrong!

Please elaborate on how they’re not being viewed favorably because I can actually pull random tweets from twitter and post the screenshots of people commenting how much better the halftime shows havwere been in the past few years. I personally have been complimented on the quality of the halftime shows and there have been more people actually watching the halftime shows then before. I really shouldn’t even pay you any mind because just last season you were on here lying about how the Baton Rouge show and the NOLA show were the same show and how they had the same music...which was entirely incorrect as you can go on the bands YouTube page and see that the shows are completely different. If you’re going to try and raise concern about the band, at least do some in an honest way and don’t just say you know things when clearly you don’t know as much as you THINK you know. As far as the golden girl features, I think the girls actually dance more than they did before they just move in between sets, versus the band using half of their halftime show not moving and just standing in a block. Just out of curiosity, where are you getting your information from because most of the claims you make are things that are easily verifiable. Also, are you the guy that came to rehearsal a few years back that Roy had ya play the Irish music for. If so, I’m glad you enjoyed it but to be honest that was one of the Ireland tribute show was one of the worst halftime shows tigerband has done in recent years. It included seven pages of drill and was extremely short. That being said, if it is you I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I'm not that Irish guy. However, I have been to a number of LSU band practices over the years. I've been watching the band in Tiger Stadium since the late 70's (since before you were born). I've had a number of conversations with Mr. Wickes, Ms Moorhouse and Mr. King over the years and have always followed the band closely. Because of our age difference, we probably associate with different sectors of the LSU fan base. The overall attitude in Tiger Stadium toward the band has changed...and not for the better (notwithstanding your tweets). BTW...I was not lying about last years NOLA/BR show. Large sections of that show were the same.

I'm tired of you bashing the current band. I wasn't in the band but I enjoy their shows much more now than before along with everyone who sits near me. Looks like it was time for a leadership change.

How about we send the 125 pep band to Dallas and save the full trip for Auburn?

This would be the case for any road game.

i hope the whole band goes to Texas next year even though we only get 3800 tickets and even though the band will be in the north end zone upper deck

I don't bash the band....I am critical of the current band staff. The current staff (along with their vision of what the band should be) has created a situation that has not been at LSU since the early 80's. They are not attracting the numbers (applicants) needed to properly outfit the 325 member band. Because of this, they are literally taking anyone who walks through the door! That is a recipe for a low-quality group with poor instrumentation. The overall sound of the current band does not compare with the bands of the past. EVERYONE in the stadium knows this. There have been countless comments about the poor sound of the band on this board (not from me). The current staff is responsible for this situation. They are either poor teachers, poor recruiters, or both.
FACT.....If Coach O recruited like this, he would be fired.

Big brass = big sound

Pictures of what......A bad sound?
The band (before Roy left) won numerous awards:
*All-American College TV Band (Bill Swor era)
*Appeared in Warner Brothers film, "Everybody's All-American."
*Performed in Hong Kong
*The SEC Band Directors unanimously voted the LSU Tiger Marching Band the best marching band in the Southeastern Conference
*Sudler Trophy - "Heisman Trophy of college marching bands"
*Won the "Battle of the Bands" contest sponsored by ESPN, Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm
*Inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame
*Performed in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland
*Named as "Top 10" marching bands in the US by Huffington Post Survey

*Frank Wickes received too many National awards to list
*Linda Moorhouse recognized as an outstanding faculty member and teacher by National Band Association
*Roy King selected as "Band Director of the Year" by Phi Beta Mu National Honorary Band Director Fraternity
*Roy King nominated as "Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year" by the LSU School of Music

WHAT has the current staff/band done since Frank, Linda and Roy left.......except make the band smaller!!!!

The funny thing is...there are actually videos of said bad sound but since you want to be a smart arse, I was specifically talking about all the negative reviews and things you’ve been hearing. Point blank. I want to see you post all of the negative reviews by people and I will post five favorable ones for every bad one you post. And as for all of the awards, 90% of what you just listed was from Wickes and Moorhouse and are awards you can only win once (the Sudler trophy, being inducted into the Louisiana music hall of fame) or events that were held one time (the All-American college tv band, ESPN battle of the bands, appearing in Everybody’s All-American), so to try and use the past accolades of the organization as a measuring stick to what’s going on now doesn’t really work as those awards couldn’t be attained again no matter who was the director. Also I believe you’re confused on tiger band performing in Hong Kong because I believe the Golden Girls went to Hong Kong and tiger band’s first international trip was actually to Ireland (which if you want to pay the bill to send the band back, by all means do...I know that year we didn’t get our stipend to help cover the expenses of the trip...).

As far as what the current directors are doing, they were invited to present at the 2017 College Band Directors National Association conference for the NOLA halftime show (which again, was NOT the same as the Baton Rouge show), as well as the 2018 Southeastern Collegiate Band Directors National Association Regional conference for the Fight Night show. (Also, wind ensemble has been invited to perform at the 2019 National CBDNA conference-not tiger band, but still falls under the new band faculty who ‘isn’t doing anything’.
