With exception of the Southern game (I didn’t watch NM game) LSU has started slow. Sometimes this is due to opponent running some things Coaches aren’t prepared for and it takes a while to adjust. Other that, any idea why they start slow?

It’s something I’ve noticed too.
We have trailed in 3 games at the half. We came back to win 2 of those.

I attribute it to the qb. Daniels is a cool guy. Lacks urgency out the gate. He picks it up when we need to play catch up.

Last week was due to Banks. FSU we marched down the field and looked great but Boutte dropped a TD pass and then penalties

They are not stretching the field. Offensive line has improved its time for JD to let it rip and throw his receivers open. Right now he doesn't throw to a spot he has to see the receivers eyes and by then they are covered. Receivers have to catch the ball and not drop it.

We make damn good halftime adjustments. Makes the 1st half look worse

On defense it may be LSU starts out very basic until they get a feel of what the offense wants to do. House has been tremendous in making adjustments this season once he seems to have a bead on what will work and what won't.

Offensively, I haven't been very impressed with Denbrock's play calling. He doesn't really seem to call many "easy" throws to help settle his QB down and get him in rhythm. Maybe get Daniels on a roll out for a quick hitter. Throw a slant. Swing one out to the side. Something to settle Daniels in.

Simply put, it's because the plays the OC is scripting to start a game aren't working. Indecisive QB, poor play design, untimely drops, defense perfectly schemed against your plays; you pick the reason.

Once they get through those, OC is calling plays based on what he's seeing the defense call against you, and those are more productive plays. Denbrock just doesn't seem to have guessed right so far this year.

This is my biggest concern this season honestly. We can't afford to keep starting games this badly. I think part of it is JD playing better in a hurry up offense but last week even the defense started badly

Mistakes. Drops, penalties, etc. Clean up the things you control and they'll start quicker.

It seems we make a lot of mistakes on offense early.

For example versus Auburn we had to punt five times because mistakes killed drives. 2 by penalty. 2 by WR drops and 1 by a terrible throw to a wide open receiver by Daniels.

Football is a game usually won by the team that makes the fewest mistakes. We need to stop making them especially mental mistakes.

Opening drive against FSU went down in the red zone & ended with a FG.
Obvious quick starts against Southern & NM.

They’ve started slow in 2 of 5 games against SEC West opponents with good defenses.

Who’s to say they don’t start quick against Tennessee’s weak Defense?

They have worked in 3 out of 5 games. It will be 4 out of 6 after this weekend.

100% agree. The play calling is leading to more mistakes on offense too. More quick hitters early probably helps Daniels and the offense to get into rhythm.

I agree with this to an extent but I don't think most people on here realize how handicapped the scheme is due to JD. If you haven't noticed, go back to the games and watch the throws you're talking about. They have called things like screens, flat passes, etc. and JD is terrible at throwing them. He has 0 touch on the passes and major inconsistency on accuracy. He sometimes gets the receiver killed. That's your problem more than Denbrock it's that JD doesn't know how to throw them so they abandon them.

There was an article yesterday that talked about how the defense baits the opposition. The most recent detail was the Brooks Int from Koy. Said they had seen that same play 3 times times prior to the pick and had dropped back into coverage to basically allow Auburn to believe that play was there when they needed it. 3 minutes left in the game, they see the same formation/keys and instead of a drop, Brooks attacked the spot on the field.

I think the offense and defense to some degree make mistakes early on that kill drives or lead to explosive plays on D. They need to get that sorted out. I have little hope for the offense unless somehow the QB position actually starts to function.

You mean like screens, throws to the flat and slants?

JD cannot really throw much of anything well. We are stuck with a limp-dick offense...again!
