With that said…a perfect example of the lazy hiring you speak of is allowing someone with no music degree to be “assistant director of bands”. How does this even happen

No music degree at all? You've gotten my interest. How does that happen?

Good lord bruh you know they have classes they have to take outside of band right?

It really is a disgrace what has happened to Tiger Band though. They were once far and away the class of the SEC with a powerful sound. Not anymore. They need to fire all the directors and bring in a true quality band director to bring Tiger Band back to glory but that will never happen with the School of Music running the show. They prefer having someone they can control instead

Damon Talley and his cronies won't allow this to happen. They want the money. Also, didn't Todd Queen do the exact same thing at the school he was at before coming to LSU, which ended up decimating their marching band?
Yes. Todd Queen is a grade A bitch who's sole purpose when they hired him was to take over Tiger Band into what it is today

I’ve got to wonder that if the band still played Neck would you all continue to bitch about them the way you do. To keep the old trope of everything being better “back in the day”, you’re having to exaggerate too much.

I was in the band during the Wicks era that you all seem to think was the heyday. The musicianship was good but unless you are embedded in the band I don’t see how you can tell if it’s any better or worse today. The marching precision was definitely NOT clean back then. I saw much better in high school. But I’d have to be in the band during both periods to know if it’s any worse today. The half time shows are definitely more creative. The dancing couple, the plane with the smoke flying across the field. We never did anything like that. I also would have loved to have performed with the HJB even though I would have been horrified to have to dance in front of the stadium like that. But I bet I’d have a good story to tell 30 years later!

Can someone explain the decision to march the band down the hill an hour earlier on game days?

Two and a half hours before the game to see the band down the hill is fricking ridiculous. No one wants to leave their tailgate an extra hour early for that.

Needs to go back to being the last thing before entering the stadium.

Not only lacking a music degree…but had never been director at a middle school or high school program. His credential is that he was a drum major at LSU. Beyond that, I guess he sucked up to the right people.

Alleva moved the band behind the goalpost the experience of Tiger Stadium will never be the same. The band controlled the tempo and momentum of the game and you could hear it and feel it. It was awesome. Now our opponents bands have a bigger impact I hope it was worth the few extra dollars thx Alleva.

TN's band was in the end zone at field level. Seemed to have a bigger impact than halfway up the lower bowl like LSUs. TN band was right there whenever there was action for either team inside the 20.

Malaguena is another one.

Usually when I’m pregaming at home I’ll put those filler songs on in the hour or so before then about 10 minutes until kickoff start the whole music procession.

I sat in the South End zone last week for the first time ever (been going to games for 20 years).

Literally couldn't hear the band. It was very disappointing, and surprising.

I imagine playing a "Latin Flare" halftime show every other game must get boring.

Most of the brass and the drumline tend to love Latin music because it’s fun to play and fits matching band instrumentation well. Just because it may not be music you listen to often on your own time doesn’t mean it isn’t a lot of fun to play. From 93-96 we looked forward to the Latin tunes. TIFWIW.

187 on U.S. News. Ole Miss and most of the SEC have better rankings. We are closer to Ark and State.

We were in the low 100s 7 or 8 years ago.

When I was in TB in the late 90’s and early 00’s, those were our favorite shows. We always looked forward to them.

Tiger Band hasn't been the same since the days of Mr. Swor and Mr. Edmunds. They were the best ever at designing and executing halftime shows.
