Are you so stupid that you don’t believe players have been being paid all this time? Lololololololololol
Exactly

Some people are ignorant. My friends played at LSU & were nobodies & got handouts.

Because it’s a shite show. The transfer portal is a joke. Transferring within your same conference is a joke. And it’s just straight up pay for play. I don’t care if anyone agrees but the old system was fine sure there was some under the table dealings but for the most part it wasn’t pay for play. It’s a free country and signing a letter of intent to go play college football to use a schools facilities, their doctors, their training staff, free tutors, free clothes, free food, free room an board, and free education. No one forced anyone to play football or sign a letter of intent or play college football. So the system wasn’t broke how it was at least if you wanted to keep college football as college football. What will be happening in the years to come will definitely change college football and hell maybe I’m wrong maybe it will be SO GREAT but I have my doubts.Down vote away lol
Except it was broken because these players could not be drafted right out of high school to the NFL. The NFL was using college as a free minor league for themselves. Meanwhile these players could not even make money off their own likenesses that had NOTHING to do with the school. They couldn’t even sign a damn autograph for $5. It was ridiculous.

You are scared of what you don’t know. That’s human nature, and it’s ok. The LSU football team is on solid legs brether

Worse than free agency. Imagine if every player in the NFL could leave after one season.
Not similar. College players don’t sign contracts.
Posted on 5/24/22 at 11:53 am to TackySweater
It's actually worse because they can sign with a university then leave immediately if they don't like it. What we have right now in NCAA is 1 year deals for free agents. It's not sign a 3 year contract like in NFL. It's literally everyone 1 year at most which is why so much tampering is going on. It's ridiculous. Anyone who thought this was a good idea should be bitch slapped.
I doubt it stays like this but you have a separate issue where the bigger money universities feel like they can control the sport by breaking away from the NCAA.

The majority of movement will be from players who were not playing at big schools, and players from smaller schools looking to move up for better competition.
And this will eventually settle down even more because there are a ton of kids entering the portal who cannot find homes.

"What's wrong...."? The player from Miami who threatened to leave if his NIL money wasn't improved. Do you see that attitude as being good for college sports? The Old Ball Coach said he heard of one recruit telling a HC:"this is what I am getting now. Can you beat that? "

and they can go all out but that still doesn't mean you can compete money wise with the TAMU, USC, or Texas of the NCAA.
So 3 teams ?

Just understand what you are freaking out about.
Even if you can rattle off 3 more, they will be fine. There are plenty avenues to get & develop good players to lsu
LSU has a great recruiting base, great coaching & amenities, and enough money to get guys they want. They absolutely will be an issue for other programs

Didn’t a basketball player in CA (I think) say he wasn’t coming back unless he got $2MM in NIL from that school?
Posted on 5/24/22 at 12:09 pm to RoosterCogburn585
I don’t have a problem with NIL. I have a problem schools outright paying players to come to their school and just saying “that was NIL”. No, that was you dropping a bag on a kid and isn’t what the original intention of NIL was.
Posted on 5/24/22 at 12:11 pm to RoosterCogburn585
I don't have an issue with NIL. I have an issue with the fact that there aren't any rules and regulations in place to control schools like Texas A&M. It creates an advantage over other schools. It needs to be regulated.
Posted on 5/24/22 at 12:26 pm to RoosterCogburn585
It does not favor markets like Baton Rouge over the larger markets so that’s my main issue

Unintended consequences.
The idea behind NIL is spot-on. Reputable players should be able to profit off of their name, image and likeness.
Example - from 2018 until whenever, every time LSU sold a Burrow #9 jersey, Joe should have gotten a nice percentage of the sale. And if an attorney or local business wanted to hire him for a marketing and ad campaign, or a memorabilia signing day, Joe should have gotten fair-market value.
And we could all sit here and name the LSU studs over the years that would have made a lot of money because of their on-field success and their images.... regardless of their sport.
The 8th guy out of the bullpen isn't going to make the same as the Friday night starter. He's just not. The 8th guy in the BB rotation isn't going to make what the team's leading scorer will....
And getting kids to transfer from one school to the next to get more money, is hurtful to the system.
So is dangling the karat in front of recruits that haven't played a down or even been through spring practice yet....
That's a broken model.

Players are mercenaries now. They don't play for love of the sport and love of the school. They play for love of money.
It’s no longer amateur sports. Hardly anyone who puts on that yellow jersey mayne is playing for the P&G anymore. It’s truly minor league professional sports now with unlimited free agency.
frick Ricks. bitches like that will be a dime a dozen now, and high character, outstanding representatives of your university will be a rarity now.

The NFL is a private company they don’t have to let you enter at 18.The kids that are good enough to make it to the NFL benefited way more off of playing in college than the school did off of them individually.Their image an likeness was rewarded in the form of using the platform the school provides, the facilities, the free schooling, the free everything. It’s a team sport and that’s why only a select few make money now so it creates a shite show especially in the locker room and creates big ego problems plus players demanding this an that because they have the transfer portal to hold over the schools head.If the kids didn’t need the college and they could get it on their own nothing is stopping them from training hard for 2-3 years after high school and entering the combine,no one forced them to play college ball.

My problem with NIL is that it is exactly not about NIL. If these guys were doing commercials and public appearances and different things, it would make sense. They’re not currently paid based on their Name, Image, or Likeness. They’re paid by schools through shell companies or outright bribery from private businesses with vested interests in the publicity. It’s a check that requires nothing to cash. It’s not being implemented in a manner consistent with its conception. Add the transfer portal, tampering with existing rosters, and recruiting with checks and deals in hand, and it’s an unmitigated disaster. Rosters will change dramatically year to year because players will be following the deals. We barely held on to Kayshon (supposedly) because Bama was poking around while he was still on our roster. Our top receiver was considering a divisional opponent because of a check. It doesn’t get any worse for the sport than that.

College athletes will soon become employees of the school.

Why does everyone say its the end of College Football? You know this has always been going on.....It is just in the open now.
You are wrong.
Sure paying players has been going on forever under the table.
But we have never seen unrestricted free agency in college football before and that is the problem
NIL is one thing. And if done properly is a really good thing for the athletes.
But with the new transfer rules in place and no real rules regarding NIL, schools (as we have seen) can openly buy players and tamper with other rosters to get the best players to transfer for a big payday.
THAT is what is going to ruin the game.
