re: Why does campus look so old and underfunded

A lot of that had to do with football. Winning championships helps the university grow via enrollment, donors etc. Also doesn’t hurt when admin knows how to run things. But to be fair, have you been to College Station. Their campus looks like Chernobyl.

I think for a long Time LSU was behind the times in a lot of areas when it came to facilities, both academic and athletic. The university also did things with little oversight when it came to architectural standards and proper planning. Case and point buildings like Lockett and Middleton were built.
Middleton in its look and location are about one of the biggest blunders ever made as far as I’m concerned. It’s segregated the classic cruciform layout of the quad designed by the Olmstead brothers. The future master plan has campus going back to that original layout.
Also LSU has no funding for its roads. The funding for that comes from parking fees and athletics throwing in money to make routes useable for game days. More money needs to be allocated to update dilapidated roadways
We have some awesome new building on campus and more are on the way. Patrick Taylor Hall, Business School, Nicholson Gateway, all the new dorms, bell tower renovation, upgrades to multiple athletic facilities, brand new UREC, and the renovated student union. New dorms will be going up where the old Greenhouses used to be on campus and in a a few years miller and herget will go away and more dorms will go up. We are also in the process of renovating multiple science facilities and the studio arts building. Go take a look at the LSU master plan on the website. Will tell you a lot about lsu future planning for

No matter how much money you give them, they never maintain shite.Take a look around NOLA, or most of the state of Louisiana. See the potholes. See the trash. See the schools. See the welcome centers and rest stops. See the millions/billions in Fed monies that have poured into the state with every disaster area cycle. Find evidence that the infrastructure has ever improved, beyond more bread and circuses. Don’t wonder why parts of the LSU campus infrastructure look shabby. Of course, dem oak trees is nice.

Alabama is devoting significant resources to its big universities and it shows. It is not just UA. A fuller discussion of the causes/effects belongs on the Political board.
Oh yeah. That’d go real far. No other board screams “discussion” like the PoliBoard.

The board at LSU wanted to buy all the land north of the college to I-10, the governor stopped that plan and now LSU have to build parking lots in between buildings and everywhere they can find a spot. Bobby stopped all those great plans.
LSU should go back to that plan as we have a newer governor who understands growth is a good thing for LSU, Baton Rouge and Louisiana.
Yeah you just made up this story.

Having been to Tuscaloosa many time..and having a child go there.. LSU campus is so period. Bama has recently built some student housing... as has LSU. And Bama has recently built .. with private money some new fraternity houses.
Lots of Georgia kids at both Bama and Auburn paying out of state tuition. Auburn’s campus is nicer than Bama btw. But they had farther to come from.
LSU problem is not facilities. It is the education and degree programs. It is the lack of technology spin off that creates businesses, jobs and economic growth. A great university should be creating so many technology spin offs that we have to import talent to fill the jobs.. And the lack of jobs for our kids when they graduate. What difference does nice buildings make when most of our professional degreed kids have to leave the state to get jobs.
In addition with the huge amount of land contiguous to the campus and south why would LSU ever spend any money acquiring land.
