The Bama beat writer Cecil Hurt gave as good a reason as any in Bama Sports:

"LSU, however, is an entirely different matter. The Tigers have players of Alabama quality, in Alabama numbers. Again, I am not trying to make the LSU offensive unit into something it is not. Zach Mettenberger hasn't been consistent at quarterback any more than Jordan Jefferson was. However, the defense has been consistently good, even in LSU's loss at Florida. In a close game, it only takes a few mistakes to make the difference, as Alabama learned in the first of last year's two LSU games."

I fricking loathe transparently disingenuous posts like this. Did we have "tremendous success" against Bama last time we took the field against them with a national championship and undefeated season on the line?

You mean like your posts that completely ignore the fact that an SEC Championship was on the line in their first meeting?

So because they lost the second game where Alabama won a trophy that was just a little bit bigger.....then the SEC Championship is ignored.

Question, in your opinion, what conference is the most prestigious championship in the country?

But this "tremendous success" line is bullshite.

What kind of success, other than beating LSU and Miles in a game where there was a proper name attached to it, has Saban had against Miles?

Would you trade places with Bama over the last three years? Just answer that question honestly.

Of course, but who wouldn't? But just because he has 2 titles, does that take away overall success?

It would better to have two NC's rather than zero, one undefeated season rather than zero, and to be undefeated this season rather than having one loss.

The jealousy is strong in you.

It's sad when a Bama sports writer can see what our own "fans" can't.

Because he is smarter than Saban and has a cross that has been blessed by the last 4 Popes.

That's called "reason" here in the land of rational observers. Do you dispute the notion that it would be better to have two NC's rather than none, one undefeated season rather than zero, and zero losses rather than one? Do you dispute that?

It's completely ludicrous to crow about having "tremendous success" against Bama over the last four years when any rational fan LSU would instantly trade places with Bama over that same time period - as you yourself just admitted. It's especially inane when one of Bama's NC's during the relevant time period came at our direct expense. And yes, I'm sorry, the national championship game was, in fact, bigger than the other two. As proof, I offer the fact that any sane Tiger fan would gladly have traded a 9-6 loss in Tuscaloosa for a 21-0 victory in New Orleans.

3-3 isn't great success. That means he wins 50% of the time.

Thank You. I like some of the posts in here, but this is a great point. LSU is the only team that consistently gives Alabama trouble, even when LSU is having a bad year. However, would you LSU fans objectively say that LSU finished 2010 and 2011 as the better team? Well the answer to the latter is obvious. Alabama's last 2 games in 2010 showed what they were truly capable of. There were too many mental mistakes in the secondary, and LSU was the beneficiary of one in their 2010 win. Take that away, and despite how dominant LSU may have seemed in that game, they would still lose.

There are many recent examples of the team that dominated losing. Don't take the 3-3 record for more than it's worth. Also, it doesn't matter how motivated and prepared LSU could have been on 1/9, Alabama wanted it more and LSU didn't have the quarterback to help beat Alabama. Les Miles gained the Mad Hatter nickname for a reason, he's been fortunate more than enough times.

Beating a good team twice isn't impossible. LSU beat a good Georgia team twice in 2003. Oregon could unsurprisingly beat USC twice this season. Auburn beat a decent South Carolina squad twice, much worse the second take kinda like LSU/Georgia 2003.

And any sane Tiger fan will tell you if LSU loses 9-6 in Tuscaloosa last year, they would not have had the chance for 21-0 in NOLA.

Bama sucked when Saban was hired. LSU was elite. Which program is doing better now?

The "but I'm a realist" argument strikes again. It's been going on for 3 weeks now.

Do you dispute the notion that the first meeting vs. Alabama was for absolutely nothing?

Let me guess, we're not looking at overall numbers, right?

We're looking at National Championships in the last 3 years, I'm sure, right?

I think that's a typical, self-pitying LSU conspiracy theory. Do you really believe that the media has some special agenda that includes promoting Alabama?

In any event, it's completely beside the point. The question could be posed as follows: "Would you have rather beaten Alabama in Tuscaloosa 9-6, faced them again in the NCG, and lost 21-0; or lost 9-6 in Tuscaloosa, faced them again in the NCG, and won 21-0?" That's the hypothetical I'm advancing. And in response to that hypothetical, any sane LSU fan would choose the latter. My only point being that it is totally and completely obvious to any human being who hasn't recently suffered a head injury that the NCG was a bigger game than the regular season match-up.
