Why do Thompson and Dugas switch positions?

Not being critical, just want to understand Johnson's intended purpose. Puts Thompson in an unnatural position. Have to believe it had an effect on his weak toss to Dugas in the DP opportunity last night late in the game (8th inning?).

It's hilarious considering Thompson is not a good fielder and Gavin can't throw. He's shotputting his throws to 1st from 2b

They’re putting him in a position where the ball is more likely to go. Dugas doesn’t have near the range or arm power as Thompson especially with a bum shoulder.

Isn't Dugas nursing a shoulder injury?

We need to stop doing it ASAP

lsu baseball nerd told jj it was a good idea.

I guess it’s to try and hide Dugas’ limited range (because of the shoulder injury?) when a pulling-left gander bats.

They said last night they are doing it due to dugas' shoulder injury.

CJJ does it to just piss off half the TD Score Board. He knows Thompson is the worst fielder on the team, but he gets a good laugh knowing the TD is melting.

They’ve been doing it since Dugas hurt his shoulder. They put Thompson where they think the ball is going. You all answered your questions throughout the thread. I thought we all knew this?

It’s dumb. Especially with runners on base and then potentially having to make throws that aren’t routine like last night on the botched DP.

Why do people just believe this myth? The guy has 14 errors in 210 chances.
They’ve been switching since the SEC tournament and barely anyone noticed until Tuesday. It has worked for the most part.

he had a bad year last year, which he was hurt for, so the thread just assumes he sucks. Nothing new here

That is what is hilarious. Thompson is a .933 fielder with a pro career ahead of him. Likely a high draft choice, but you're right he sucks.

Are you kidding? High draft choice? If you are going to field 933 at shortstop in the pros you better hit .375, not .250 (in college).
And Tre has saved him a ton of errors

Which doesn't make sense because if he does get hit the ball to short he has to make an even longer throw..
I think it's more to do with Thompsons range and glove.

Because we've seen him play shortstop?
At a position where the best fielder on the team usually plays, he is 2nd to last among starters in fielding %

Are you talking amongst starters for LSU?
You can’t compare fielding percentage at shortstop compared to other positions.
How many errors do you think Tommy White or Gavin Dugas has with 210 chances at shortstop?
Outfielders catch fly balls and rarely have throws that would be considered errors if they aren’t on target so they always have higher fielding percentages than the rest of the team. I’m not sure any LSU outfielders even have an error this season.

Thompson has more range and thats who they want fielding due to Dugas' injury to his shoulder.
We have actually done pretty well turning double plays in Omaha. Should have got one last night but Thompson was a bit slow on the feed.

Tommy White doesn't play shortstop and has almost 100 RBI's
Gavin doesn't play shortstop and was on fire before getting hurt
You can look at any team you want to in the pros, the SS is going to have one of the highest fielding % on his team, not be second to last
