Finally, the game has evolved and we continue to run a very boring offense. It's effective to point that it has won games, but it will not keep the fans attentions especially once the game is in hand.
Except we ran a wide open offense last year and people still left early. That excuse doesn't fly.

You may be onto something. If so, the program is in trouble long term from an attendance standpoint.
I think it might just take a losing season, or one of those magical Saturday night wins this week. When was the last time we had one of those games? Bama 2010?

I think the better question to ask is, Why do you stay the entire game?
I would assume it's because you are enjoying yourself.
For me, the reason I, and probably most others, leave the game early is because there is a lack of enjoyment at the time we leave.
It's great the Tigers won yesterday by 38 points, and I couldn't ask for a much better performance. But, up 38 to a below average team at the end of the third, how can you blame people for leaving? I think only the most ardent football fans would enjoy that fourth quarter, a quarter in which zero points were scored. Some people, though I believe relatively few, are strictly at the game to "Support the Team or University" I don't have a son or friend or other relative on the team. This isn't like when I sit through a 4-6 final for my 10 Y/O niece playing basketball. I go to the Tiger games TO ENJOY MYSELF. When the Tigers have a clear victory against a clearly outmatched team well within hand, it becomes boring and apparently many, many, many others agree with me.
I have my fun before the game tailgating, and during the game, when it's competitive. I got to BR at 9:30AM driving from NOLA. I enjoyed visiting with friends, tailgating, watching the band march down the hill, having a few beers, and walking campus. So when it came to the fourth quarter(up by 38), I stayed and listened to the band play pre-game one last time at the quarter break and walked back to the car for the 2+hr drive home.
So why did I leave early? Because although I had a fantastic time all day, I was not going to enjoy sitting in my seat watching two teams try and expire the clock. It was boring time. I was tired. And I have no desire to sit through a fourth quarter of a game that was clearly already won.
Why on earth did so many stay?

Poor traffic flow leaving the stadium. It's amazing how much quicker it is when you leave a little early and the game has basically been decided. A big difference to those of us who don't live in Baton Rouge.
I stay for the entire game, have a bite to eat, enjoy a cold beverage and chat with friends afterwards. The traffic isn't so bad. I don't know what you people are bitching about.
I understand that things will take a while so I just patiently take my time getting home.

I'm starting to think based on the answers in this thread that the length of the games added to the traffic snarl leaving after a game might be the main culprits.

Pretty much what everyone else has been saying:
1. Traffic: next few years should e better with the new flow plan and the widening of Nicholson
2. Data coverage: has been better this year but still an issue to a lot of fans.
3. Style of play: LSU's lack of use with the forward pass gets old. I think people want to see TD passes and juggling catches. 3 yards and a cloud of dust is not is not a hot seller to the casual fan
4. Stadium amenities: I know people who leave early and go get dinner before heading to the bars. I think if they had some decent food choices in TS that might help. Selling beer also wouldn't hurt.
ETA: props to LSU for the live look ins to other games. That definitely doesn't hurt.

Fans these days seem more like tourists. They go to Tiger Stadium to "check it out" like they would the Grand Canyon.
There's no sense of "going to war" anymore.
And no ... it hasn't "always been this way."
One game in particular I remember is Kentucky, 1996. We won 43-13. Late in the fourth, Kentucky was driving and a full stadium was screaming not to let them score 20.
This is a good post and illustrates how our fan base has changed over the years. 'Then', fans in TS saw themsleves as almost participants in the game. Now, many fans go not just to see the gsme (they can do that more comfortably at their tailgate) but to see TS. Once they've done that for a qtr or two, time to leave.

And the fact that they can go to their tailgates and fire up the tv and watch the end of the game getting drunk and enjoying themselves.
Serve alcohol in the stadium and fans will stay...Win or lose. Just my opinion.

No it's not against TV contracts b/c they will randomly show highlights from other games. However, it seems to me that they wait until the crowd leaves before the incorporate it into the "program."
Last night they first streamed other games in the middle of the third. And the game they streamed was another blowout SEC Game. At the next timeout they finally showed FSU vs. ND.
I'm not sure what they showed in the fourth quarter.

You're at a football game. What's wrong with hamburgers, hotdogs, and nachos?

I watched the Bama/-TAM game last night (I have 4 HD TV's set up in my media room so I can view multiple games simultaneously) and of course Bama was up big by halftime, 45-0. The game was over. Yet the stands remained relatively full until the end of the game.
What is different?

Traffic and they usually have been on campus 10 hours already. Just tired I guess. I like to walk back to car and have a beer to let traffic die down. Traffic by the cow palace isn't bad IMO

No flame, just a serious question.
Is drinking booze or beer at an LSU game so important to such a large number of fans that the players and the games are secondary to sustaining a flow of alcoholic beverages?
ETA: I apologize if my response sounded judgmental. I didn't intend for it to be that way. If you are correct, then it won't be long before alcohol will be available throughout the stadium, IMO.

1:Boredom
2:I actually believe that the effects of our continuous movement lifestyle limit the chances of many to sit for four hours for anything.
3: The game has become a social event for many. Many have no intention of staying for the entire game regardless of whats happening on the field. They tailgate for the primary activity to socialize with friends and family and then "check in" with the game for a bit and hit the road.
4: The list of options available as far as entertainment is concerned has grown long. As one person mentioned earlier, the internet. Fan gets a little bored, checks the net for plans-checks in with friends, and is gone in a wink.
