all of that says that basically a student athlete's eligibility would be capped at 5 years to play 4, but doesn't spell out when the redshirt would be applied... so assuming they "burned" his redshirt this season, he could still be "redshirted" next season and have 3 more years to play after that.... 5 to play 4.... that's what the article is saying.... i'm not too sure why you are using that as a point of reference, but whatever...

Only exception is when an athlete redshirts his first year and then is granted a medical redshirt another year making them a 6th year senior.

Players, especially in football, may redshirt to learn the team's play book since college teams run more complex and more plays generally than most high school teams. In other cases, a player may be granted a redshirt if he or she has participated in less than 10% of the season taking place in an academic year

This is the key word.

Jesus Christ it's fricking Idaho. I could care less if he scored 5 td's... if we do this he needs to contribute in big games

Does he have to burn it against a good team? Why does it freaking matter who its against. The coaches apparently had no plan on keeping it dude. For all we know Hill was in practice begging coach to let him play already. It's a mistake to burn it in week twelve. If its in week three then clearly the coaches had plans all along to have him play this year. Quit trying to act smart.

He posted some lame shite from wikipedia. The bottom line is this -- there is no rule in the NCAA that you can play in the first 2.5 games of the season and still redshirt if you don't play any more. You have to apply for a hardship waiver (medical reasons, mostly).

If you play one down, you are using a year of eligibility. It's that simple.

If a player, plays one play in a game, his redshirt is gone. This is common knowledge. I hate our fan base.

Not in the current rules. This was in fact the case not too long ago.
