PM’s 2020 team was going to be like that 06 team. Thank goodness for Covid
It wasn't a good roster by any means... still better than 2006. Had better pitching.

Idk, maybe. 2006 did have two big leaguers on that staff.

Sure, but the fact that a freshman Louis Coleman (who wasn't that great in 06) immediately took the Friday job in 06, tells you all you need to know about that staff.
2021 Henry, Marceaux, healthy-Hill, Fontenot and Labas were better pitchers than every starter (i.e. not Will Harris who only appeared in 13 relief outings that year) on the 2006 staff. Also, Daniel Cabrera slightly gets the edge over Quinn Stewart in terms of best bat.

In a word pitching. Add the phrase; timely hits. Subset; injuries, pitching coach, hitting coach.

Knew he was finished after seeing him with his head down in the dugout of Tennessee while getting swept. Physically and mentally drained. Amazed SC got him out of retirement. That retarded kid of his they used to let in the dugout must cost a ton to support.

Seemed to me like he had lost passion for the game after his Dad passed away. Maybe he just needed time away from it.

Mainieri didn’t want to admit the BBCOR era was over when teams started to slug again
This is the main reason he was still recruiting like it was 2012-2015. Smaller contact hitters and elite defenders.

More parity in college sports. Add in the transfer portal and I think it’s better suited for coaches like Jay Johnson who seems to be more relate-able toward the younger generation. It’s also not as hard to recruit at LSU. LSU is a top 10 recruiting baseball program just off the brand itself but Jay has done a great job getting key pieces through the portal. Perfect example Paul Skenes, Braden Jobert, Jacob Berry and ton of good arms. That 2023 team was heavily recruited by Paul but Jay needed players from the portal to win a title. I also feel Paul recruited the state more and put more time into starting seniors and juniors where as Jay will encourage players to compete for a position on the field. Example look at Brazwell and Larson. Both players who started last year who aren’t at the moment in the starting lineup.

Jay has no kids only basball. He loves it i don't see him getting burnt out as long as we can compete with NIl

He had alot of neck pain and could not devote the time to the players like he could in the past . He said so himself . Cervical spine surgery is not something taken lightly . Mercifully , he had a good result . Bless him and I wish him the best in the future .????
