Why did Efton Reid get so much hate on here last year?

He was a big bodied freshman Rim protector who could shoot. He had great potential but for whatever reason many people on here could not stand the fact that he needed some time to develop and couldn’t just take his production at face value. “Patience” seems to be the mantra around here so being that critical of his play doesn’t make sense anymore. We could sure use him this year!

Not justifying the hate bc it was unwarranted (people did this because he was a 5 star), but he is basically irrelevant for Gonzaga this year too. No improvement. But he still has 2 more years to show something.

He sucked pretty bad. Let’s not try to sugar coat it. A 7 foot tall college male with the hand strength of an old lady. Constantly dropped balls and got bullied.

The rating services aren’t doing some of these kids any favors by overrating these kids and creating high expectations.

Because LSU fans see a 5 star and expect instant production. Efton was clearly a project player and our fans are impatient.
I do think there were glaring flaws in his game, especially his fouling. However, that doesn't mean I hate the guy. I met and spoke to him before, he's actually pretty cool.

Sorry for the blasphemous statement but he got way more playing time than he should have and contributed very little which let to fan frustration. Not his fault. It wasn’t his decision to be in the game that much.

He had a big upside, nearly 7 ft with a real nice shooting touch. He showed flashes but struggled against big physical SEC defenses. His rating was mostly about potential, the NBA loves big men that can shoot. Either way he'd only help this team because KJ is the only big that score.

Reid is terrible, stop looking at his recruiting rating and look at his production. Some guys just aren’t good at basketball.

Probably was a mix of the expectations of being a 5 star with that frame and that potential, but he just seemed to move in slow motion.
He just looked like he had slow reflexes and a really slow reaction to everything going on around him.
