re: Why can’t LSU pitchers throw strikes?

No dice. These guys aren’t shite pitchers. Almost all of these guys could have played at any school in the country.

It's very, very rare for a guy like Skenes to actually develop while still in college.
We recruit elite prospects, but in baseball more than any other sport, the word "prospect" is all about potential. Take Mavrick Rizi, 6'9 and able to push close to 100 mph with his fastball. Right now he can't throw that pitch for a strike, and the strikes he does throw are very hittable. If he develops, he's a MLB ace.
I mean, there's a reason Bull Durham was made, it's how baseball tends to be.
If we recruited "less than elite" guys, we'd see more consistency, but less dominance too.

K. Fire the PROVEN best pitching coach in college baseball because you BELIEVE its all his fault.

I’d love to know if there is a stat for most leadoff walks allowed. I wonder where LSU would rank.

Agree.

I'll add this, LSU has had 13 pitchers drafted in the last two MLB drafts, including a record of 8 in 2024. Yeskie has done something right.
I think his biggest issue is that he calls pitches based on the potential he sees in guys and doesn't seem to make adjustments if they're missing spots. That sucks in the short-term. But when guys do figure it out, they quickly become dominate.
And to the issue of mechanics, we do have pitchers with issues. But you can't afford to fix that in college when you may only get a year or 2 with a guy. Changing his mechanics will see him get worse before he gets better.

The worst pitching staff ever or at least prior to Skip. They are all hittable when they do manage to throw a strike, which is rare. Horrible

They can but the only problem is that the ball has no movement so it ends up in the stands for a home run.

Please explain why these pitchers haven’t developed at all and seem to be getting worse
No idea but it’s not all Yeskie

100%, and you're already scraping off the best to go to the draft.
Then with the portal, pitchers aren't staying anywhere very long (usually) and being developed. There's only so much you can do with a pitcher in one offseason, when they're facing an SEC schedule.
There are a lot of great prospects that never take the next step.

Sounds like we have many options here for when we can Yeskie. I expect to see everyones application on Jays desk once done.

My biggest peeves this year have been LSU always letting leadoff guys on base, and doing the opposite on offense. It’s insane how bad we’ve been at that all year

Idk what you are watching but the majority of LSUs bullpen is the perfect example of a shite pitcher.

Jay has gotten caught up in that everyone should be 95+ hoping they will learn to throw strikes. Need more 90+ with movement and off speed to fool batters.
That’s a theory, but it’s not what won us two national championships.
The fans are frustrated, and frustrated fans search for a single reason that their team sucks and a villain to fire. It’s not usually so simple. There are a number of reasons we suck - portal misses and injuries are surely chief among them. It’s safe to say, though, that coaching is not one of them.

Then why do we need a pitching coach?

LSU has 'throwers'.....not pitchers!!

Is this more an indictment of youth training/development focusing on speed WAY more than control at younger ages, or an indictment of college/pro coaches recruiting throwers thinking they can turn them into consistent pitchers?
