Can anyone please explain to me why Bo Pelini is grabbing so much interest?

Is it because of his familiarity with the program, or what? He hasn’t coached in the SEC in 12 years and I can’t imagine the defensive scheme he’s been running in the Missouri Valley Conference would translate well ...

Because he is an incredible DC. He was a good HC at Nebraska compared to their other recent hires too

If that's who O wants, why are you questioning it? He clearly has earned the benefit of the doubt.

I just want an attacking defense that plays man-coverage on the outside.

LSU had the best defense in the last 20 years when he was our DC.

So you really think the schemes in that conference can’t translate to this conference? The man has coached over a handful of top 5 ranked defenses. He’s had a hand in developing players like glen Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, laron Landry, snd suh. Why not Pelini would be an easier question. I could go on and on why he would be a very good hire.

I'll humor you since you think your opinion matters.

Bo has never fielded a bad defense anywhere as a DC. He was Co-DC with Veneables at OU back in 2003.

LSU has only had a defense ranked as high as Bo's LSU teams once since 2007. That was in 2011.

If you think Pelini is some crusty old has been, then how is a guy who has been around so long like Veneables the best in the business? Veneables clearly has adapted. It's pure ignorance to think Bo cannot or has not.

Bo was fired from Nebraska for PC BS, they've never gotten back to where Bo had them. He also was content at Youngstown because he was collecting fat checks from Nebraska up until last year.

Now LSU will get a DC who will be here 5-8 years, as opposed to a young super star who doesn't want to recruit, and bolts in 2 years leaving us to rebuild all over again breaking continuity.

I liked seeing Pelini scowling on the sideline. Dude is intense and has high standards and expectations for his crew. I think he is going to create a killer defense and I think the players are going to respond really well to him.

Well let's see the facts:

- He was a coach in the NFL for almost a decade
- He was a DC at 3 different power 5 programs, having elite defense all 3 years at LSU
- He's been a head coach at the power 5 and FCS level for the past decade+
- He's not exactly over the hill at 52

So yeah, no idea why we'd go after him

And Joe Brady had never coached in the SEC.

So what?

One concern I have is after being the man at Nebraska and Youngstown, can he step back now and be a subordinate to Coach O? I don't know him or O well enough to have a credible opinion on that.

As great as this sounds, it's not nearly that simple anymore. Offensive coordinators are pretty innovative now. An average team running bunch schemes with pick plays into this type of coverage will tear it apart while looking like world beaters. Not to mention, with how much the defense is on the field now due to the explosive offense, playing this type of defense will exhaust the players in the first half. Aranda was smart to implement complex zones into his scheme.

This is why i have my doubts of bo or any older successful coordinators. Loved bo but explosive offenses are the name of the game now

Coach O has been part of several championship winning teams, not just LSU. He’s undoubtedly earned the right to make the decision on Pelini. Orgeron knows exactly what it takes for a DC to be successful, and on the flip side knows the signs when someone can’t get the job done.

I apologize for shedding a negative light on Pelini if this is in fact O’s guy.

Who knows? But more money, bigger profile, significant challenges week-to-week...these guys are competitive so that has to resonate with him.

Plus, he's got a serious mean streak and LSU provides him the resources and personnel to make his detractors eat shite.
