Vandy scored a TD on the first drive.

Then LSU scored 28 unanswered before the end of the first quarter.

The defense had a fourth down stop.

So they slacked off when the game got out of reach? Who the frick cares?

It's not like we were in danger of losing.

Stats mean dick in the long run.

(BTW: working earlier. Watching game now.)

The work "whiff" comes to mind as an LSU tackling technique.

14 of their points weren't even scored by their offense. You cant pin those points on our defense.

Our defense didnt play great. They still have a lot to work on. Tackling in open space is still an issue. But they, by no means, played as poorly as some are making it out to be.

The score could have been 66-0 and people on here would still find something to complain about.

I continue to be amazed at the relentless commitment by so many people to make excuses for the defense. Every week carries half a dozen new theories.

They haven't played well since the first game, and that was against the most predictable offense in college football (in a tie with Army). Since that time, they have been gashed repeatedly, whether the game was close or not. And these last two opponents are awful teams with bad offenses. And the amount of missed tackles have been through the roof.

That's why we're upset about the defense. We didn't wait this long for an offense, only to have the defense disappear. And I know we've had some injuries. I get that. But it says nothing positive about the readiness of our backups if they can't provide any more resistance than this.

And that same score could be in favor of the opponent, and some sanctimonious people would find a way to defend it, to show what "great fans" they are. Because honest observations are only allowed when they fit your perception of the universe. Sounds like left wing politics.

You obviously don't know my history.

I criticize Aranda more than anybody. And get attacked forit.

But I can't understand the issue y'all have with this game.

Tackling and busted coverages are a concern, we will face much better D’s With much better pass rush and DB’s, this team WILL lose games if it isn’t fixed.

To put it as simple as possible, this board is full of idiots and mouthbreathers who aren't happy unless they're bitching.

Also, they don't understand that our defense will be giving up more just because of the type of offense we run now and the defense being on the field more because of it.

The thing that is important is that they've made huge plays when they really needed to. The 2 goalline stands against Texas and the 4th down stop today come to mind.

We were missing a lot of players today and it's not like we were missing backups. We were down a few starters the whole game plus MD getting hurt during the game.

I don't. I'm commenting on this board, as a whole, with your post here included.

I explained my issues with this game, and season, and I believe it is pretty much the consensus of opinion by most who have watched this defense.

We all know that there were two touchdowns given up directly on turnovers. They still gave up 24 to a poor offense, and the missed tackles were worse today than they'd already been in the last couple of games. And they got absolutely gashed on the ground, and only the score prevented Vandy from running more.

And that last sentence brings me to another point: When you have a big lead, you have the luxury of pinning your ears back and really being aggressive, knowing your opponent has to pass. But that doesn't seem to matter with this defense, thus far, as they play very timidly, and there is a noticeable lack of rallying to the football. Too much spectating, hoping the one defender on an island is going to make the open field tackle.

These are basic disciplines. It's not even really schematic. There just needs to be more fire, and much better tackling. The coverage has been pretty good downfield. But the lack of consistent push upfront, along with the team-wide issue of tackling is a problem.

Because the saying always was "Once LSU has an offense to go with its always amazing defense, they will be unstoppable." And now that we do, the defense looks more lost than it has in a long time. Blown coverages, no pressure on the QB, missed tackles by the dozen...it doesn't look like an LSU defense. And I don't think it is wrong to be worried about what it will look like when we play teams like Alabama, A&M, and Auburn.

Preach.

We always need something to complain about.

I will gladly take blowouts like this. Even with slopping tackling.

Correction. This board is littered with self-important "super fans" who are allergic to any basic observation that takes away from their Euphoria.

Everyone is praising the offense. But you don't read those posts, do you? No, that's too inconvenient to your holier than thou narrative that YOU are somehow enlightened and any opinion that seeks to address all aspects of a game (not just the good one's) is evil, and MUST mean that those posters ONLY like to talk about the negatives.

My advice: Get over yourself.

The ones squealing about the defense are stupid madden jockey kids. They think there's cheat codes in real football.

Ask Alabama how that "slacking off" works in the long run. Clemson with 44 points.

I have been a Tiger fan since the 40s.

I have never seen an LSU defense so porous - we resemble the defenses I used to mock. Inexplicable to me.

Because there’s too much talent on that defense to be playing so poorly. Are you even paying attention?

they will not happen when in true SEC play...this was Vandy,
14 pts, it happens....26 points or so for the D to give up...not acceptable.
The D lost us a game w ND a while back, lost the FL game last year and look at where we are.

EXECUTION (assignments and tackling) STOP looking for the glory and ripping out the ball-- WRAP UP THE DAMN player.
