re: Why are some fans wasting Simmons' entire tenure complaining about him?

but this makes me laugh

I'd rather have a 3 star player with "want to" than a 5 star player without.
You had a lot of that in Jones' first two years. Remember all the success he had in the NCAAT?
So if we are keeping track at home, according to the fans the following players have quit and/or become completely selfish over the last 4 years:
Hickey
Stringer
Mickey
Quarterman
Simmons
At some point don't have to wonder why so many guys are "quitting" over a 4 year period? What is the one constant?

Were they expecting a polished player right out of high school?
Blaming a true freshman for the team's deficiencies is a bitch move I don't care who it is
Once again, the "youth" excuse DOES NOT APPLY in basketball.

sure it does
Kentucky uses it every time they fail in the tourney

Simmons is FAR from LSU's worst defender.
All he does is half-assed keep his man from posting up. When his guy does get the ball in the post, he is basically going to get an uncontested shot. He doesn't switch well, doesn't close out on shooters, doesn't provide ANY help defense, leaves his teamates out to dry by swatting at the ball instead of getting in front of the guy with it. He screened his own teamates a number of times yesterday because he was too lazy to move. He's a joke on defense. Malone was better yesterday.

All I want to see is a little more effort and passion on the court. He's playing for himself, not his school.
This is correct. My complaints are:
1. I would've expected a transcendent player to elevate his team. Instead, we're imploding.
2. His attitude on the court is very passive. No passion, no grit, no leadership. Appears to be coasting, waiting for the NBA draft.
3. He has severe offensive limitations. Ball handling in transition is phenomenal - other than that, he's limited in half court sets.
4. Much of the attention he's brought to LSU is now focused on how bad we are, and our coaching issues. And that ain't good.

Could not agree with you more. If he had any teammates outside of Horns or Blake who could hit a jumper, he would be averaging 2-3 asts more and probably be more involved and scoring more. Blame it on Jones, blame it on the teammates, but don't blame it on Ben

I don't ever recall anyone questioning Stringer's effort, or calling him selfish.

Jesus Christ! What other players is going to picking up the points he's leaving off the board while "not trying to get his nightly double-double? Same goes for the rebounds. By your logic, Simmons shouldn't be focusing on getting double digit rebounds. Who's going to pick up the slack there? Victor with his nightly 2 fouls in the first half? Epps? Robinson? Malone?
At least be consistent in your criticism of the kid. Which one is it? He's too selfish and "doesn't care about LSU" or "He doesn't take games over like great players should"?

So you want us to enjoy watching a team that might play themselves out of the NIT?
Do I enjoy watching the team play? Yes, because I like basketball as a sport, and I'm not just a bandwagoner. Does it frustrate me more than anything to see the team play like this? Absolutely, because they have no fundamentals.
Does this stop me from appreciating what Simmons is doing and bringing to the table? No absolutely not. Like I said, next year, this place is really gonna be a shite show sans Simmons, Quarterman, and possible transfers.

No one looks at a big picture. Victor stays in foul trouble. Our guards allow easy entry passes by not pressuring the ball handler, or they get beaten off he dribble. I guess we would like to have Ben get in foul trouble, too? It's nearly impossible to play post D in the SEC and not get fouls. When you contest shots you have to contest without touching the guy. It's just stupid people think he's bad at defense.
Ben is going to go down as a villain at LSU because he will be a triple double machine in the NBA and people will be pissed

Exactly. His effort at the rim does appear to be lacking. But this team doesn't have a snowball's chance with him in foul trouble. And if you contest every shot, you will end up in foul trouble whether you foul or not. Craig Victor should be a shining example here.

Here are the reasons:
1) He came in with unrealistic expectations;
2) Those expectations are not close to being met
3) He does not seem to be "all in" for this team in his demeanor and lack of killer instinct;
4) This leads to him not be endeared in the hearts and minds of the fans.

Yea it came off a little unclear. Putting up numbers is one thing but putting your team in position to win is another. This guy could not care any less if we win or lose, and that's what drives me crazy as a die hard fan.

Kentucky has made the Elite 8 in 5 of the last 6 years. They've made the Final Four in 4 of the last 6.
Granted, they have extreme talent, but they manage to get it done with all their "youth."

How about the fact that he doesn't care one way or the other what happens in a game or the outcome of the season. The kid is already out of the door mentally and it shows.

Who set these expectations?? Jesus God. What else is the kid supposed to? He puts up 20-12-5 nearly every night.
So because he's not gonna win the Wooden award, he didn't live up to expectations? This is absurd. Do you people read what you post?

Simmons dont care about def. he doesnt even put his arms up to contest floaters in the paint, let alone try to block them.
Tyrus thomas and jordan mickey would have a field day with the same shots that ben watches go in the basket.
Of course we know ben isnt a rim protector, but I didnt expect us to get carmelo anthony without the shooting either.
Edit: melo dominated college playing inside and waited for the nba to play SF. Poor ben wants to be a PG, but he just isnt. He would dominate as a PF, but he wont play there.
Last night blakeny snagged a rebound and started the brake, which your SG is supposed to do.
However, he had to waive of ben first. What ben doesnt get is that he is NOT supposed to be running towards the ball. He's supposed to be streaking down floor in a lane, not running to take ball.
Ben wants to play outside not inside and its killing us.
Additionally, our perimeter guys have been demoralized. They have to let the PF dribble it upcourt.
Just ridiculous. We have several giys to bring the ball up and no one to play bully ball.
Ben bullied Kentucky, played inside all game. We all thought after that he figured it out. He didnt.

I agree, and in no way should he get a free pass for this abysmal season.
