Why are people way less excited about the MLB draft than the NFL draft?

Literally no one in my office watched it or knows the first rounders.

Because more people are excited about the NFL draft.

MLB doesn’t give instant impact like NFL and NBA

Because the MLB has way too many rounds, half their picks never even make it out of the minors and people get burnt out on 1,455 game regular seasons

A ton more rounds in the MLB draft
College football has a lot bigger fan following than college baseball, so more people are familiar with the players being selected in the NFL draft
Vast majority of MLB draft picks will never even make it to the majors while most NFL picks are on the active roster in week 1 the next season.
The top MLB picks are usually spending a few years in the minors. Top NFL picks are expected to be contributors right off the bat

It’s tough to get excited about players who might not play for your team for years or maybe even ever. Also, the vast majority of college and high school baseball players aren’t known by the general population.

Most of those players will disappear in the minors for a couple of years while the NFL players have an instant impact

One thing is because all the high school players. Like me, I love college baseball, but MLB, not so much.

In the 20 round format, there are over 600 picks in the MLB. Only 15%-20% will ever step on a major league field.

the delay between player getting drafted and actually playing for the teams that drafted them if they play at all

Technically 2430…two teams play per game.

Prior to Covid the draft was 50 rounds
You had players playing in the minors for free that had no business being there

MLB is boring.
I don't anyone at work, in the family, the neighborhood, who watch or care. No one even speaks of the World Series games. The media promotes it, but few watch.
Here's a stat for you:
Which league averaged the most fans in 2025? MLB slightly beat Major League Soccer in popularity. NBA and NHL finished last.

I would say because most drafted in the MLB wont play in the 'big leagues' for another couple of years.

Because half of them are high schoolers?

Too many games, Too many meaningless stats, every swinging dik played baseball when he was little whether he was a daisy picker or good. Not the same with football, football is action 100%
The NFL is the biggest entity in entertainment and TV, I have friends that could care less and don’t understand it. I remember when all the “kneeling” was going on and people were saying the NFL is going to fold, WRONG it’s stronger than ever. It’s an American institution, now I love baseball but too many players are not American, no matter how good they are they’re just not as relatable as a homegrown football player. College football now with NIL hate it or not will increase viewership and pass MLB. We love college baseball but outside the SEC nobody gives a ratsarse.
