Jim Harbaugh, Matt Rhule, David Aranda, Lane Kiffen, or Billy Napier was on my list.
Realistically, I thought it would be Matt Rhule or David Aranda.
Looking back wish it was Marcus Freeman

Kelly, just wouldn’t have given him 10 years

Kelly left him a ready made program and he's had some pretty bad losses there to G5 teams.
I agree with Madking that Kelly was the hire, just do it on a 6 or 7 year deal, not 10.

It’s really just a lack of contingency with the contract. There’s no such thing as a can’t miss hire especially with someone who’d never won a title or a major conf. I think most thought Kelly would do great things here but leaving yourself no outs is bad policy. I think most people would agree that Bill Walsh was a better coach than Jim Harbaugh but the latter had way more success at Stanford than the former. Nothing is simply plug and play with sports.

We have our disagreements, but I totally agree with you here.

Same, I think you and I were probably ecstatic after year 1. I know people have gravitated to the idea that JD5 masked everything when he was here but that 1st season we won games where he was awful and won others in different ways. We looked like a total team that needed a couple more pieces but since then we seem to be lacking more and more as it goes.

In long run I think he has more upside and could have gotten for much less.
Time will tell.

I’ve been asking this when everyone starts bitching- no one every replies

Mad…… you really think Kelly is doing a good job this year????

But BK wouldn’t have left ND for a simpleton contract

What do you specifically like about Freeman? He has multiple losses to G5 teams, he lost to Ohio State last year because they only had 10 men on the field.
To me, I'd still rather BK over him.

Thank you. This sidewalk guy thinks Kelly walks on water and thinks this team is actually playing well. I didn’t mind the hire at the time. Just very disappointed in what’s going on by game 10 of year three. This team looks like an early 90’s Curly hallman team.

I've got objections to the 10 year contract but don't let recency bias impact what it was at the time. You couldn't have gotten a bigger pull than Kelly outside of Nick Saban or Kirby Smart. This is the run he was on at Notre Dame at the time we hired him
2018: 12-1 CFP playoff (finished ranked 5th)
2019: 11-2 (12th)
2020: 10-2 CFP playoff 10-2 (5th)
2021: 11-1 (5th)
If I showed yall a blind resume of any coach with those results, you'd want him. We aimed high, threw a fortune at a coach with as good a record as you could hope for and so far it's been unimpressive.

I see everyone wanting Woodward fired, but who else was there to take in 2021?
Bear in mind that Woodward's first choice was Jimbo Fisher, followed by Lincoln Riley. He should never be tasked with hiring a HC again.

I think we all are.

I don't get these overreactions, sure we aren't good but Hallman went:
5-6
2-9
5-6
4-7
Does this really look like that?

We have all the signs of a failed HC and they’re everywhere from schematic to attitude to accountability to leadership in every phase of the game.

Honestly, if that was the list, we're lucky to have ended up with Kelly
